Damien Chazelle’s Babylon — the La La Land director’s upcoming 1920s Hollywood-set film — has lined up some inimitable talent for its cast, including two of our very own.
Joining Aussie superstar Margot Robbie, as well as Brad Pitt, Diego Calva, Jovan Adepo and Li Jun Li will be Max Minghella, Flea, Samara Weaving, Rory Scovel, Lukas Haas, Eric Roberts, P.J. Byrne, Damon Gupton and Katherine Waterston.
Weaving is another homegrown gem who played Indi Walker in the long-running Australian soap, Home and Away, from 2009 to 2013.
The Australian actress has been enjoying international success, and making us proud, with roles in films such as Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Ready or Not, Bill & Ted Face the Music and Last Moment of Clarity. She is also a cast member of the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series Nine Perfect Strangers, which was filmed in Australia and also stars Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy.
And, you know what? We are just going to go right ahead and claim Flea for our own too, seeing as the legendary Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist was born in Melbourne in 1962.
Meanwhile, Max Minghella — while not Australian — is probably best known to Australian audiences as Nick Blaine in The Handmaid’s Tale and can currently be seen in the horror movie Spiral, which is part of the Saw franchise.
For his part, Chazelle has an impressive slate of films to his name, including 2014’s Whiplash and 2018’s First Man. The filmmaker won the Oscar for Best Director for 2016’s La La Land, becoming the youngest ever person to take home the award. The film, which stars Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, was nominated for 14 Academy Awards in total but lost out on Best Picture to Barry Jenkins‘ Moonlight.
It is not currently known which parts each of the actors will play, nor what exactly Babylon‘s plot will be, although we do know that the film will be rated R and is slated for a Christmastime release.
