Sunday, March 13 was a busy night for award season with the BAFTA and Critics Choice Awards both taking place across the pond from each other.
Taye Diggs and Nicole Byer hosted the 2022 CCA’s, which saw Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast pulling up equal with West Side Story with 11 nominations across all of the categories.
Dune, Don’t Look Up, The Power of the Dog, Licorice Pizza, and King Richard were also nominated in the Best Picture category, as was Guillermo del Toro’s Nightmare Alley, CODA, and Tick, Tick … Boom.
In the acting categories, Ariana DeBose and Rita Moreno from West Side Story were included in the Best Supporting Actress group, meaning the pair were up against Kirsten Dunst for her acclaimed performance in Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog.
Vying for Best Actor were performers such as Benedict Cumberbatch for The Power of the Dog, Peter Dinklage for Cyrano, Andrew Garfield for Tick, Tick … Boom! and Will Smith for King Richard.
