Perhaps it is because we have been living through a pandemic for almost two years and all of the frustrations that come with it, or perhaps we are just a bunch of saps but, either way, there has never been a better time for some good old fashioned nostalgia.
There’s just something about casting one’s mind back to simpler times that is good for the soul and this is something that Hollywood knows all too well.
From mining existing IPs to bring classic stories into the modern age, to firing up reboots and delivering the stories we grew up with to the next generation, we love the familiarity yet “newness” of seeing our favourite characters in new situations.
Of all of the nostalgic offerings of the past few years, Cobra Kai— Netflix’s reimagining of The Karate Kid — has surely been one of the more successful.
The fourth season of the hit series is due to land on Netflix on December 31st 2021, which means you can spend all of New Year’s Day on the couch, nursing your hangover and catching up with Ralph Macchio as Danny LaRusso and William Zabka as Johnny Lawrence.
Season four will also see the return of Xolo Maridueña as Miguel Diaz, Tanner Buchanan as Robby Keene, Mary Mouser as Samantha LaRusso, and Jacob Bertrand as Hawk. Gianni Decenzo as Demetri, Vanessa Rubio as Carmen, Peyton List as Tory, Dallas Dupree Young as Kenny, and Oona O’Brien as Devon will also star.
Martin Kove will see return as John Kreese and Thomas Ian Griffith, who played the original Terry Silver from the films, will finally make a proper appearance this season as the other antagonist.
As far as the plot for season four, Netflix has released an official synopsis which reads:
“Season 4 finds the Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang dojos joining forces to take down Cobra Kai at the All Valley Under 18 Karate Tournament… and whoever loses must hang up their gi. As Samantha and Miguel try to maintain the dojo alliance and Robby goes all in at Cobra Kai, the fate of the Valley has never been more precarious.
“What tricks does Kreese have up his sleeve? Can Daniel and Johnny bury their decades-long hatchet to defeat Kreese? Or will Cobra Kai become the face of karate in the valley?”
So, it sounds like we are gearing up for one hell of a fight and the latest teaser trailer all but confirms it. Check it out below and you can catch seasons 1-3 of Cobra Kai on Netflix now.
