Footy Legend Archie Thompson Is Ready to Kick Goals on ‘Celebrity MasterChef’

Archie Thompson knows how to kick goals, but will he be able to win big in the Celebrity MasterChef Australia kitchen?

A certified footy legend, New Zealand-born Thompson played for Melbourne Victory for 11 years. In that time, he’s won three championships and three minor premierships. He’s also played for Australia over 50 times and kicked 28 goals. Love that for him!

So, will he be able to translate his success on the field into the kitchen? He knows that practice makes perfect, but when it comes to the kitchen, all bets are off.

In a new promo spot, we see him looking a little frazzled as he tries to perfect his dish. Asked when he made the meal for the first time he replies, “ah… last week?” Uh oh!

In a recent Instagram promo, Thompson said that his passion for cooking comes from his mum, who he believes is “one of the best cooks in the world”.

When asked what dish he would be, he said: “hot chocolate, because of the texture and smoothness of my skin, and the sweet taste”. Whether hot chocolate technically counts as a “dish”? Debatable, but who cares?!

He also said that his biggest skill in the kitchen is “washing dishes”. At least if he messes up his dish, he’ll have a clean workstation, right? That’s gotta count for something.

Still, we think Thompson might be playing down his talents in the kitchen in order to make a sweep-from-behind victory in the race to the finish line!

When he’s not in the kitchen or on the field, Thompson is spending time with his family. He has two children, Isabella and Axel, and has each of their names tatted on his inner forearms.

Recently, Thompson posted a proud dad moment, celebrating Axel passing the test to get his learner’s permit.

He also posted a clip of Isabella singing, captioning it “One of my favourites … Love you with all my heart @imbellaamor @axelthompson_”.

Maybe we’ll see Isabella on the next season of The Voice!

Celebrity MasterChef Australia premieres Sunday, 10 October at 7.30pm, on 10 and 10 Play On Demand.
