Bendooley Estate

Once a hayshed, Bendooley Estate is now one of the region’s most famous wineries for weddings and all things food and drink. The Book Barn is the estate’s centrepiece, filled with rare and antique books. It also happens to be where you can enjoy lunch or sit by the stone fireplace with a glass of wine. Next door is where you will find the architecturally striking cellar door. Here, grab a seat at a table, or sink into a lounge and explore the range with a wine tasting paired with a cheese and charcuterie board.

When it comes to premium wine in the Southern Highlands, you won’t find anything better than Centennial Vineyards. The winery prides itself on using sustainable practices in its viticulture, resulting in high-quality grapes that are handpicked and carefully crafted into exquisite wines. The cellar door is perched on a hill, offering sweeping vista views. Inside, patrons can dine on modern Australian cuisine, take a guided tour, and enjoy wine tasting. There’s even a wine and chocolate pairing you can book.

Joadja Estate

How can you visit the Southern Highlands without sampling the oldest vineyard in the region? Joadja Estate’s vines were planted in 1983 on the old dairy farm it stands on today. Visitors to the boutique winery will find a warm and rustic cellar door that serves wood-fired pizzas and charcuterie boards alongside a wine tasting. Expect to sip some funky wines made from Malbec grapes, sauvignon blanc, pinot grigio, and more. There’s a boysenberry liquor that is a must-try. Dribble it into some champagne or sparkling wine or over ice cream. It’s phenomenal.

Cherry Tree Hill Wines

This boutique winery specialises in award-winning handcrafted wines, focusing on small-batch production and sustainable practices. Expect complex wines bursting with flavour. Try the Cabernet Merlot, for a subtle, dry red or sparkling white, for when you need a little effervescence in your life. The cellar door is small inside, but there are often tables outside overlooking the vineyard. You won’t find an expansive restaurant, but you can order some light meals and snacks with a wine tasting. We recommend the pie flight, which comes with four different kinds of pies. There’s a reason it’s on the famous Southern Highlands Pie Trail. Discover it for yourself.

St. Maur Wines

The Southern Highlands is known for its European likeness, from the rolling vineyards and stone villages plucked right from Tuscany. St Maur offers visitors a taste of northern Italy on a vintage dairy farm with sweeping views. The well-stocked portfolio of hand-crafted wines ranges from traditional Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot to Chardonnay. A tasting includes a sampling of St Maur’s premium LOT 41 and the Saint Series, which holds some incredible fine wines. Set up on the long wood table outside in the sun, or cosy up to the fireplace and let the friendly staff guide you through a tasting.
