The Gold Coast is more than just a destination for surfers and thrill-seekers; it’s a place where nature’s beauty thrives alongside urban excitement. One of the best ways to experience it? Take a walk.
From paths wandering through lush rainforests to picturesque coastal trails, here are the six best walks on the Gold Coast.
Oceanview Track, Burleigh Heads National Park
Just a 25-minute drive from the CBD, the Oceanview Track is an easy breezy stroll through a forest oasis. The 45-minute track winds along the rocky coastline from Tallebudgera Creek to Burleigh Heads’ southern edge for sweeping ocean views. Keep an eye out for ancient volcanic basalt columns. If you want to cool off, the calm waters of Echo Beach are perfect.
Coolangatta to Point Danger, Southern Gold Coast
This walk is particularly special at sunset, but come any time of the day, and you’re guaranteed photogenic scenes. The 2km walk is an easy grade track that runs parallel to Coolangatta Beach and ends at Greenmount Beach, where you can grab a rewarding coffee. Along the way, stop at the many, many beaches popular for surfers.
The Gold Coast Oceanway
This 36km strip runs along the Gold Coast’s best beaches and waterfront promenades. It will take you seven to eight hours to walk, but if you’re not up for it, you can walk it in sections and add on a restaurant visit or two. This is the walk you do if you want to get your bearings on the Gold Coast.
Cougal Cascades, Currumbin Valley
Are you looking for a waterfall escape near the city? Drive 30 minutes into the Currumbin Valley, where the treetops tower above you. There’s an easy 30-minute walk to Cougal Cascades, where you can cool off in a rock pool or the surrounding freshwater streams. There is an adjoining, much longer and challenging hike that takes around five hours to complete if you’re up for the challenge.
Main Beach to Lands End
Spend your day meandering along this scenic esplanade track, shared with cyclists. The path hugs the marina, giving you beach views and a chance to swim before it transitions to forests and parks. There are plenty of opportunities to sit, rest, and grab a snack or coffee. You can even bring your dog if they’re on a leash.
Northcliffe Beach
Walk along Northcliffe Beach, the Gold Coast’s most popular and built-up beaches. The surrounding high rises contrast with the sandy, blue beach to provide a classic Queensland beach backdrop. The 3km walk is easy, and you’ll often see runners and bikers along the path. It’s generally quiet in the afternoon but can get busy, especially during summer.
