The Best Places to Get a Truffle Fix in Sydney

It’s that time of year again—truffle season is here and we’re celebrating the only way we know-how. By hunting down all of the best truffle dishes in Sydney.

Whether you regard truffle as a delicacy reserved for occasion dining, a winter cooking staple, or somewhere in between, you can never go wrong with a generous shaving of the fungi over a saucy pasta, or in hot chocolate (don’t knock it until you try it).

This year is a special year, as restaurant owners and cafes are heavily shaving the stuff over toasties and doughnuts.

If you’re looking for a truffle fix, book a table at these restaurants.

Mille Vini

Surry Hills
Mille Vini is known for its mood lighting and elegant Italian fare, and for now, you can get that dining experience with truffle shaved on top. From now until truffle season ends, Mille Vini has a seven-course truffle menu featuring the finest, handpicked truffles from Western Australia’s Manjimup Truffles. Sit back, and soak up the romantic ambience while everything from zucchini flowers to burrata is brought to the table, with the truffle shaved in front of you. The wine pairing is optional, but you’d be missing out on tasting Mille Vini’s extensive collection of bottles from Italian and Australian winemakers.

Goodfields Eatery

Lindfield
Truffle dishes don’t have to be expensive. Sydney’s best cafes are shaving thin slices of the umami-packed fungi over everything. try the decadent savoury truffle doughnut at Goodfields Eatery or the loaded truffle potato gems with lobster tail is a fancy take on a fast-food classic. As Goodfields is a walk-in-only café, we know the crowds will be lining up (as they have done over the last few years) to try these incredible limited-edition dishes.

Quick Brown Fox Eatery

Pyrmont
This casual Sydney eatery is elevating its dishes with, umami-packed truffles from Western Australia. For $13 you can add shavings of the stuff to any dish, but they also do have weekly specials. The roast chicken congee with fresh truffles is a must-try. Even the Mac N Cheese Burger is exceptional, especially with a dusting of truffle. For lunch, try the orecchiette carbonara with, you guessed it, truffles.

The Mayflower

St Leonards and Darlinghurst
It is well and truly truffle season at The Mayflower’s newest location in St Leonards. Customers can add 5 or 10 grams of shaved truffle (market price) to any menu item, including mushroom and ricotta ravioli, wagyu flank or even chips. At the Darlinghurst flagship, you can tuck into a decadent truffle Croque Monsieur, truffle mac and cheese, and even a truffle hot chocolate.

Nobu

Barangaroo
When it comes to indulging, does it get any better than Nobu? We don’t think so. The world-renowned restaurant is joining in on the truffle fun by offering Western Australia truffles, sold per gram, and shaved on anything you desire. We suggest the Wagyu gyoza because truffles and wagyu go together like avocado and toast. The wagyu steak and rib-eye steak is also a popular choice, or add them to a warm mushroom salad because you can never have too many fungi.

SOUL Dining and SOUL Deli

Surry Hills
Truffle season has begun this week at Surry Hills’ SOUL Dining and SOUL Deli and the teams have gone all out this year with Robertson Truffles to celebrate the first ‘proper’ truffle season since 2020. This year, SOUL Deli has five dishes incorporating truffles, including some of its breakfast classics as well as menu bestsellers enhanced with truffles. We suggest trying the truffle choux with truffle cream or the truffle eggs benedict is always a crowd-pleaser. ruffled drinks are also on the menu, including another takeaway bestseller during last year’s lockdown—the Truffle Dirty Nutty Latte (a very popular drink in South Korea).

Lana

CBD
Lana’s Head Chef Alex Wong will bring the delicate nuances of the truffle to life with a six-course truffle dinner, this July. With dishes such as wagyu truffle “kare” puff and scallop, ginger and truffle to Bottoni all “Carbonara” with dashi broth and truffle, you’ll be treated to the kind of menu you crave during truffle season—playful, innovative and darn good. Bookings are taken from 5 pm and staggered throughout the evening.

Ragazzi Wine and Pasta

CBD
Sydney’s favourite pasta joint is joining in on the truffle fun with a series of truffle-based dishes. These include shavings on a bowl of potato gnocchi and dropped on a plate of duck breast and chicken liver.

a’Mare

At a’Mare, they have created a customer truffle set menu to celebrate the season. You will have to request it. Chef Alessandro Pavoni has created delicious dishes using Australian black truffles including a taglioni with truffle pecorino, which is then topped with more truffles.
