With that said, whether you want a bouquet of fresh flowers for the dining table, new linen set for the wardrobe, or to simply enjoy a weekend market with friends, here are the best ones to visit.
Carriageworks Farmers Market

Every Saturday from 8am to 1pm, Sydneysiders flock to this former train yard to peruse over 70 stalls selling fresh fruits and vegetables, meats,c cheese, baked goods, and flowers. Marketgoers will also find ready-made pies, which you can eat or freeze when you get home, local wines, and all the condiments one household could need, including Pepe Saya butter and lemon curd.

Who says markets are just foodies? This market, held every second Sunday of each month from 8am is for all the fashionistas and homewares-obsessed shoppers. On one side of the market, you will find new and pre-loved threads from emerging local designers and on the other side, expect handmade ceramics and homewares. There are over 220 stalls to browse through. The Kirribilli Markets were first held on January 21st 1976 in the back yard of the then newly opened Kirribilli Neighbourhood Centre. Today, it is one of Sydney’s oldest and most popular markets.

Every Saturday, from 10am to 4pm, locals flock to the markets post-swim for breakfast on the grass, then a walk through the stalls. As for shopping options, there are plenty of stalls selling local handmade goods such as chopping boards, homewares, and clothes.

The markets are open every Saturday from 9am to 3pm and is only a 20-minute bus ride from Sydney’s city centre.

Every Saturday, a market pops up in Fitzroy Gardens, attracting large crowds, despite its relatively small size. The markets are held every Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 2pm.

Paddington is the birthplace of Australian fashion empire Zimmerman, so it’s natural for Padington Markets to host over 150 stalls dedicated to budding designers. Expect a mix of jewellery, homewares, art and fashion – much of which is sold exclusively at Paddington Markets. There is an al fresco food court selling a variety of international cuisine. Visit on Saturdays between 10am to 4pm.
Marrickville Market

Organic seasonal produce takes centre stage here, which is why most locals do their weekly grocery shopping at the Marrickville Market. Browse through all the local produce options, but don’t forget to stop by the countless snack stalls, cold-pressed juices, and salad bowls. You can find a spot on the grass to sit on, and enjoy the buzzy atmosphere. The market is open 10am to 3pm every Saturday.
Le Marche Willoughby
Willoughby
Venture to North Sydney for this French market, known for its Australian-French stalls, including the bets eclairs in Sydney. You will also find fresh pastries, locally made clothes and bags, and plenty of condiments including truffles. While you’re there, grab a croque monsieur to munch on, or pull up a chair and enjoy lunch on the tables. This market is held inside a Europen-style cottage, and operates every second and fourth Sunday of the month.
