Queenstown, on New Zealand’s South Island, is known for its mountain views. And while said views are visible from almost every accommodation available around town, some places showcase them better than others, with stunning interiors and facilities to boot.
From a property with outdoor hot tubs that face the mountains, to a hotel with suites with their own terrace overlooking the town’s postcard-worthy scenery, here are a few of our favourite places to stay in Queenstown that offer epic views.

Matakauri Lodge
To give you some idea of the quality you can expect at Matakauri Lodge, located on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, the property was named in the top resorts in Australia and New Zealand in Travel + Leisure’s ‘Worlds Best Awards’ in 2019. Matakauri’s interiors are understated, with the surrounding mountainscape, including The Remarkables, Cecil and Walter Peak, visible from floor-to-ceiling windows, taking centre stage.
The Carlin Hotel
The Carlin is both New Zealand’s first six-star hotel and the country’s first seven-storey building. The boutique property offers suites in one-bed, two and three configurations. All suites have outdoor spaces where you can take in the mountain views. Staying with a group? The Presidential Suite can be expanded to seven bedrooms connected by a private elevator.
The Headwaters Eco Lodge
While most of the mountain views from The Headwaters Eco Lodge at Camp Glenorchy have to be enjoyed from outside, there are plenty of beautiful spaces to do so, including native gardens that feature sculptures, stone mosaic walkways and an outdoor fireplace. The drive along the edge of Lake Wakatipu through the native forest is also considered one of the world’s most spectacular. The lodge is a 45-minute drive from Queenstown and houses 14 chalets.
Novotel Queenstown Lakeside
Novotel Queenstown Lakeside is an affordable accommodation option, located right on Queenstown’s lakefront and a short stroll from the town’s centre. Opt for a Lakeside room for sweeping scenes of Lake Wakatipu and the mountains beyond from the balcony.
The Rees Hotel
Every one of the 60 rooms at The Rees Hotel offers jaw-dropping views of Queenstown. Guests here are treated to a library of rare books and art, a private wharf with access to jet-boats and water taxis, and a courtesy shuttle into Queenstown town centre. Book the Executive Lake View One Bedroom Apartment for your own balcony, big enough to hold a dining table, overlooking the lake.
Hotel St Moritz, Queenstown
Hotel St Moritz blends luxury with warmth, in terms of its hospitality and interiors. Think artwork and custom furniture that highlight Queenstown’s ski town charm. The hotel also has an on-site restaurant and bar, a library and a garden with two hot tubs that you can soak in as you gaze at views of Cecil and Walter Peaks. Most of the rooms look out across the lake and mountains, but be sure to check that yours does when booking.
