Bachelor Alum Brooke Blurton Announced as The Bachelorette Australia 2021

The Bachelorette

It’s official: The Bachelor and Bachelor In Paradise star, Brooke Blurton, will be handing out roses as the Bachelorette Australia 2021.

“I am so ready for this. I’ve done it twice before and now, having the opportunity to choose my person and who I want in my life, is a truly unique and special experience,” Blurton said in a statement.

“My perfect person is someone that loves me for me. I hope they offer shared values and compassion for others. All the dreamy things! I’m so excited and hope that I finally find that person I’ve been waiting for.”

26-year-old Blurton is the first bisexual and Indigenous Australian to be cast as the Bachelorette in a move that is a positive shift in diversity on Australian screens.

Rumours circulated back in early 2020 that Blurton had indeed been offered the role, however, at the time, she didn’t think Australia was ready for it.

“I’m a little bit different in the sense that I date both sexes and whether Channel 10 and Warner Brothers would be up to a bi Bachelorette [is the question],” she told The Babble podcast.

“I don’t know what they would think that looks like or if Australia would be ready for that”.

Newcomer pilot Jimmy Nicholson’s casting is also a first in Australia, as our newest Bachelor is of New Zealand and Fijian heritage.

At the time of publication, applications are still open for contestants so head to Warner Bros. casting here and you can follow Brooke on Instagram here.
