After the recent announcements that Arctic Monkeys are returning to Australia to headline Lost Paradise, Falls Festival and Heaps Good Festival, the band has announced three east coast concerts.
The shows will mark the band’s first Australian shows since their 2019 Tranquility Base & Hotel Casino tour.
While there’s not a lot of information around on when the band will drop their next album, the fact that they’re touring from August and consistently announcing new shows is a fairly good indicator that it’s not too far away.
In May, Arctic Monkeys’ drummer, Matt Helders, said that the new album “picks up where the other one [Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino] left off musically”.
Speaking to Mike Dolbear for DrumathonLIVE 2022, Helders said that if fans are hoping for something closer to the band’s smash record AM, they should not get their hopes up.
“I mean, it’s never gonna be like ‘R U Mine?’ and all that stuff again, you know, the heavy riffs and stuff,” he said.
“But there are riffs in there and [it’s] a bit more up-tempo, even though it’s not loud,” he added. “It’s hard to explain!”
Regardless of what the band has in store for us with their next album, they remain one of the most successful bands to come out of the last two decades. In fact, their last tour sold over 625,000 tickets, and now, they’re ready to do it all again.
Arctic Monkeys will perform at Sidney Myer Music Bowl (Melbourne) on Wednesday 4 January; followed by Riverstage (Brisbane) on Wednesday 11 January; and finally, The Domain (Sydney) on Saturday 14 January.
For the Melbourne and Brisbane shows, they’ll be supported by Mildlife, and for the Sydney show, DMA’S and The Buoys will open the show.
General tickets are on sale from 12pm Friday, June 17. Fans who sign up to the band’s mailing list will have access to the artist pre-sale, though, which will go on sale at 10am AEST on Wednesday, June 15th, and Frontier members will also have access to the Frontier pre-sale, which will go on sale at 10am AEST, Thursday, June 16th.
