We’re already counting down till the premiere of And Just Like That … the highly anticipated reboot to the successful Sex and the City franchise. In case you’re wondering, Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte will return to the small screen on December 9, exclusively on BINGE.
Of course, before we make ourselves a cosmo and click “Watch Now”, it’s best to get up to speed about exactly what we can expect in the latest season. There’s plenty of familiar faces and also a lot of changes, so let’s get into everything you need to know before you watch And Just Like That …
What’s It All About?
If you’re a fan of the original Sex and the City, which first came out in 1998, then you would be familiar with the many adventures of 30-something Carrie Bradshaw and her best friends Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha, as they navigated life in New York City.
From their love life to their career progression, nothing was off the table when it came to the group of women. Carrie, who wrote a weekly sex column quickly became a ’90s fashion icon and had people around the world dreaming of living in an apartment in the Upper East Side.
Now, things are a little bit different. Most notably, the absence of Samantha, played by Kim Catrall. In And Just Like That … only three women remain, and this time, they’re in their 50s.
Still in New York City, and still decked out in the most eclectic outfits, Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte give a glimpse at what navigating love and friendship is like in their 50s.
Which of the Original Cast Members Is Returning?
Despite Kim Cattrall choosing to opt out of the reboot, there are plenty of others who are returning to the series including the late Willie Garson. Joining him are Sara Ramirez, Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, Karen Pittman, Chris Noth, Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg and Evan Handler.
Is Carrie Still Writing Her Column?
If the latest trailer is anything to go by, then it seems the reboot has decided to adjust to the times, because instead of writing a column from her bedroom, Carrie is now hosting a podcast.
Her podcast seems to discuss sex and relationships, so we can only assume that the contents of her show will be similar to what she used to write about.
Are Carrie and Big Still Married?
Of course, this is the biggest question of all. Are Carrie and Big still together? Throughout the series, the pair have definitely had what you would say is a tumultuous relationship. But despite being problematic at times, viewers couldn’t help but root for them.
But it seems in the reboot, the couple is going through a divorce. In a leaked script page, Carrie is sitting with her friends Stanford Blatch (Willie Garson), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis) when she says, “I was taping the podcast, I was washing my hair. Yes, I wasn’t eating or sleeping, but at least I felt good about my marriage. Now I’m just one of the wives he was taking care of?”
The scene implies that the on-again, off-again couple are in the process of working out an alimony agreement. But then again, the leaked script could just be a ploy to deter people from the actual plot of the reboot. We also know that Aidan will be starring in the upcoming season, so maybe the two will rekindle the magic once again?
Where Can You Watch It?
The first two episodes of And Just Like That … will premiere on streaming platform BINGE on December 9. After that, fans can catch the remaining eight episodes weekly every Thursday.
