Breaking news: Things are happening this week. Important things. However, we at The Latch understand that it can be difficult to stay across the sheer volume of stories that are dropping every single morning. Maybe you can’t get through them all because you’re going through a break-up, heading to a job interview, or planning an art heist that will be covered by us sometime next week.
Well, whatever your reason for being a bit behind the eight-ball is, don’t sweat it. Because we’re bringing you a list of the biggest headlines and summarising what’s happening around the globe. That way, when you’re abseiling into the Louvre, you’ll have something to chat about with your fellow robbery buddies.
NSW Trains Strikes Are Happening This Week
According to a NSW train guard known to The Latch, two strikes are happening this week. The first one is taking place on August 23. It’ll impact Northern and Western Sydney, as well as some services to Brisbane. This strike is taking place between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
The second strike is happening on August 25. This strike will impact Redfern, Central, and the City Circle line. Like the previous strike, it too is happening between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
However, this industrial action isn’t stopping there. If you want to learn more about what’s happening, then swipe through this A+ article on the subject: Here’s a List of all NSW Trains’ Planned Strikes
Gay Sex Has Been Unbanned In Singapore
In great news for tops, bottoms, and equality, Singapore will nullify a law that bans gay sex in this country. “We finally did it, and we’re ecstatic that this discriminatory, antiquated law is finally going to be off the books,” LGBTQIA+ activist, Johnson Ong, said to the BBC. “There’s a sense that maybe it took a little too long, but it had to happen, you know. Today we are very, very happy.”
However, the battle for justice isn’t over yet. This is because Singapore has flagged that it plans to put more time and resources into preventing gay marriage from becoming legal. May the LGBTQIA+ activists in Singapore continue to fight the good fight.
Andrew Tate Has Been Banned From Instagram and TikTok
Andrew Tate will soon be a cringe-worthy misogynist regulated to the appendix of a single history book. This is because he has been de-platformed by Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. “Misogyny is a hateful ideology that is not tolerated on TikTok,” a spokesperson for TikTok said to NPR. “Our investigation into this content is ongoing, as we continue to remove violative accounts and videos, and pursue measures to strengthen our enforcement, including our detection models, against this type of content.”
Since being banned from Instagram and Facebook, Tate has tried to backtrack his entire career. In an interview with Adin Ross, a Twitch streamer, he claimed that every single misogynistic comment he’s said about women, for the last six years, was a joke. However, take this claim with a truckload of salt, as Tate also asserted in the same vid that he was a real-life superhero and one of God’s favourite children.

Darya Dugina, Ukraine Destabiliser, Has Died in a Russian Explosion
The daughter of the Russian ultranationalist Alexander Dugin, and a Putin supporter in her own right, has been killed in a car explosion. As per The Guardian, authorities are stating that this happened west of Moscow, near the village of Bolshiye Vyazemy, at 9:30 PM.
Without any evidence, some Russians have claimed Kyiv was behind this attack. However, these allegations have been refuted. “Ukraine has absolutely nothing to do with this,” said Mykhailo Podolyak, an advisor for Volodymyr Zelensky. He also noted, “We are not a criminal state like Russia, or a terrorist one at that.”
A Locally Acquired Case of the Monkeypox Virus Has Hit NSW
Unfortunately, one person has caught monkeypox from another individual in NSW. This has prompted NSW Health to urge “the community, particularly gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM), to continue to be vigilant for the symptoms of monkeypox following local transmission of the virus in NSW.”
Moreover, NSW Health Executive Director of Health Protection, Dr. Richard Broome, said, “Men who have sex with men who are returning from overseas should contact their GP or local sexual health clinic for a check-up when they return as symptoms of monkeypox can be mild.”
If you’re concerned about catching monkeypox, then have a chat with your GP. Vaccines for this virus are currently available in Australia.
