Upright, the ultimate Australian outback adventure story is heading to BINGE.
Starring the multi-talented Tim Minchin alongside 20-year-old Milly Alcock (The Gloaming) the eight-part series will land on the streaming service on Boxing Day.
Winning Best Comedy Series at the 2020 AACTA Awards — with Minchin taking out the Best Comedy Performer award, Upright is an unmissable Aussie drama.
A story about family, resilience, music and forgiveness, the series follows two misfits thrown together by chance in the middle of the Australian desert.
When family outcast Lucky Flynn (Minchin) learns that his mother is dying, he decides to drive to the other side of Australia to see her, packing nothing but an upright piano for the journey. His plans are soon turned upside down when he meets the rogue teenager Meg (Alcock). Together they forge an unlikely friendship, as they embark on a road trip adventure across the Nullarbor Plain in a race against time.
Upright features a stellar lineup including Heather Mitchell (A Place to Call Home), Daniel Lapaine (Muriel’s Wedding), Ella Scott Lynch (Love Child), Daniel Frederiksen (Ghost Rider), Kate Box (Picnic at Hanging Rock), Ningali Lawford-Wolf (Mystery Road), Sachin Joab (Hotel Mumbai), Luke Carroll (Strangerland) and Rob Collins (Secret City).
“Summer is a time when many Aussies are embarking on their own road trip, and what better way to kick it off than following the hilarious and touching original Australian series Upright,” BINGE Executive Director, Alison Hurbert-Burns said in a statement.
“Tim Minchin’s creative genius will take people on an adventure across the Australian outback, and we are thrilled to bring this multi-award-winning original series to our viewers, joining the world’s best shows also now streaming on BINGE.”
Minchin, who penned the multi-award-winning Broadway musical, Matilda: The Musical, wrote the soundtrack which features Australian songs performed by Tame Impala, INXS, Briggs, Paul Kelly, Baker Boy, Missy Higgins, and more.
