Netflix has dropped the first trailer for the follow-up to 2020’s ultimate guilty pleasure Tiger King, and it looks just as psychotic as the first one.

The official synopsis for Tiger King 2 promises it will investigate how “sudden fame and unwanted attention from the authorities turn up the heat and unearths some stunning revelations” while giving viewers the “murder, mayhem and madness” that they loved about the first iteration.

Familiar faces such as Jeff Lowe, Tim Stark, Allen Glover, and James Garretson will all return for the second season.

The new season is scheduled to land on Netflix on November 17 and picks up the story with Joe Exotic behind bars and Carole Baskin, whom he tried to have murdered, closing in on ownership of his infamous zoo. Meanwhile, questions surrounding the disappearance of Baskin’s first husband, Don Lewis, are still swirling.

Lewis vanished in August 1997 with Baskin claiming he had taken a private plane to Costa Rica for business which must have crashed. However, no evidence of plane wreckage was ever discovered and neither was Lewis’ body, resulting in him being declared legally dead in 2002. Exotic’s theory, which he gleefully relays in the first season of Tiger King is that Baskin murdered her husband and fed him to their big cats.

The first season of Tiger King premiered, which was filmed over the course of five years, premiered on Netflix in March 2020 — just as the world was being plunged into lockdown. It quickly became the most-watched show in the US and an international hit, sparking vigorous debate and endless memes.

The characters proved so successful that Tiger King has since spawned a podcast, comic book and a documentary about Exotic’s traumatic past, as well as a scripted series called Joe Exotic starring  John Cameron Mitchell as Joe and Kate McKinnon as Carole.

The TV series, which was produced by NBC’s Peacock in the US, has been adapted from the Wondery podcast and follows the story of Baskin — a big cat conservationist — who discovers that fellow exotic animal aficionado Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel is breeding and using his big cats for profit. She sets out to shut down his venture, inciting a quickly escalating rivalry. However, Carole’s own checkered past comes back to haunt her as Joe is determined to use her secrets to expose her.

All five episodes of Tiger King 2 will premiere on November 17, 2021, on Netflix. Check out the trailer below.
