The trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder is finally here. The latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor: Love and Thunder will mark the debut of Oscar winner Natalie Portman as Jane Foster / Mighty Thor.

The film is a follow up to 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, which has a rating of 93% certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

With Taika Waititi returning to direct Love and Thunder, this film is one of the most hotly anticipated releases of the year, and finally, fans can get a sneak peek at what’s in store come July, when the film will be released in Australia.

The first trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder gives us the first look at Christian Bale‘s character of Gorr the God Butcher, as well as Natalie Portman’s Mighty Thor and Russell Crowe’s Zeus.

Here’s everything we know so far about Thor: Love and Thunder, including cast details, plot, and more.

Who Is in Thor: Love and Thunder?

Aside from Chris Hemsworth, who is of course returning as Thor, the film is as star-studded as any of the other films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Get ready to see a ton of familiar faces, because Thor: Love and Thunder will see Tessa Thompson and Taika Waititi return to the franchise, after being introduced in Thor: Ragnarok back in 2017.

There are a ton of new faces joining the cast for the fourth Thor film, too, most notably Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, Russell Crowe as Zeus, and Jaimie Alexander as Sif.

Other MCU faces you can expect to see pop up are the gang from Guardians of the Galaxy, like Karen Gillan as Nebula, Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, and Dave Bautista as Drax.

Finally, it will also feature the voices of Vin Diesel as Groot, and Bradley Cooper as Rocket.

What Is Thor: Love and Thunder About?

Disney’s official synopsis states that when we’re reunited with Thor in Love and Thunder, we’ll find him “on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced — a quest for inner peace”.

It continues: “Thor’s retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who — to Thor’s surprise — inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late”.

Who Directed Thor: Love and Thunder?

New Zealand director Taika Waititi is directing Thor: Love and Thunder, returning to the Thor-niverse after directing 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok.

The film is written by Waititi and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, based on the comic book by Jason Aaron, and of course, based on the Marvel characters created by Stan Lee.
