DC Comic’s Dark Knight is once again returning to the big screen, with actor Robert Pattinson playing the masked crusader in The Batman.
The film, which is due in cinemas in 2021, is already one of the most highly anticipated films of the year — thanks to Warner Bros. and director Matt Reeves drip-feeding us information.
First, we caught a glimpse of the new and improved Batsuit and then we saw the modernised, suped-up version of the Batmobile.
Now, a new trailer and teaser have been released for the virtual DC Fandome, giving insight into the new film — including additional characters.
Here’s everything we know so far.
What is The Batman about?
Simply titled The Batman, the film focuses on a younger Bruce Wayne early on in his crime-fighting career and will make use of his detective skills, rather than his strength.
“It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films,” Reeves told The Hollywood Reporter.
“The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime.”
The movie is set in Batman’s second year of his superhero career, as Bruce Wayne is still perfecting his equipment and methods and establishing a relationship with the GCPD, however, at this point in time, resident fears the man they call “The Batman”.
The plot centres on a hunt for a serial killer who murders wealthy Gotham residents, as well as Batman’s discovery of a deep conspiracy reaching far back into Gotham’s history. It is known that The Riddler will play a large role, however, it’s unclear whether he’s actually the villain Batman is hunting.
During the fandome, co-writer Mattson Tomlin said that the film will explore trauma and added that Reeves is “always coming from a point of emotion”. It will also see Batman face off against an assortment of villains from throughout his career.

Who is in the cast?
The Batman has an all-star cast led by Pattinson.
Zoe Kravitz will play Selina Kyle/Catwoman, with Reeves describing this film as an origin story for her, Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) will play Commissioner Gordon and Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood) as Edward Nashton/The Riddler.
Andy Serkis (His Apes) will play Batman’s butler, Alfred Pennyworth while Colin Farrell (Artemis Fowl) will play the villainous penguin and John Turturro (Do The Right Thing) will play Carmine Falcone.
There are also new characters played by newcomer Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál and Interrogation’s Peter Sarsgaard will play District Attorney Gil Colson.
