While Netflix continues to offer up extensive originals, hot on its heels is Apple TV. The streaming service not only has an insanely good selection of films but it’s also starting to deliver more and more original TV series.

Tehran, an eight-episode series will premiere globally with the first three episodes on September 25 on Apple TV+.

Tehran tells the thrilling story of a Mossad agent who goes deep undercover on a dangerous mission in Tehran that places her and everyone around her in dire jeopardy.

Acclaimed writer, Moshe Zonder (Fauda) has created the series alongside Dana Eden and Maor Kohn and co-created and directed by Daniel Syrkin.

The trailer (below) was released on September 3 and is just a morsel of what’s to come including Israeli actress, Niv Sultan as Tamar Rabinyan, a kick-ass female protagonist.

Tamar is a young agent from an Iranian family who is sent into Tehran to destabilise the Iranian nuclear program.

Alongside Sultan is critically acclaimed actor Shaun Toub (Homeland) as Faraz Kamali; international star Navid Negahban (Homeland)  Masoud Tabrizi; Shervin Alenabi (Baghdad in My Shadow) as Milad; Liraz Charhi (A Late Quartet) as Yael Kadosh; and Menashe Noy (Big Bad Wolves) as Meir Gorev.

“We always felt we were doing something good,” Eden told The Jerusalem Post after the shows original success in Israel. “But it succeeded beyond our wildest dreams and we are very grateful for that.”

“I want to thank the Israeli public that made it a hit, who made its audience grow more from week to week. We spent six years developing the show and it’s great to see it catch on.”

Upon its original release June 2020, the series became a must-see TV for a wide Israeli audience. At the same time, news events surrounding the release proved topical as a series of explosions took place at military and nuclear sites around Iran.

Tehran joins a bevvy of premium international series on the platform including the upcoming Long Way Up, starring and executive produced by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman; Masters of the Air, a new limited drama series from Apple Studios and executive produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television, and Tom Hanks & Gary Goetzman’s Playtone; Slow Horses, another international espionage thriller starring Academy Award-winner Gary Oldman.

Tehran will premiere globally with the first three episodes on September 25 on Apple TV+.
