Stan’s July offering is as scary as the last six months have been — well, almost.
Included in its offering for the month, is Stan original film, Relic, which stars an all-female Australian cast.
There are also a few new series from the US to sink your teeth into like P-Valley, true-crime documentary series Outcry, and a fun teen flick, Valley Girl.
Relic, July 10
Spanning three generations of women, Relic tells the story of Edna (Robyn Nevin, The Matrix Franchise), an elderly and widowed matriarch who goes missing, and her daughter Kay (Emily Mortimer, The Newsroom) and granddaughter Sam (Bella Heathcote, Stan Original Series Bloom) who must travel to their remote family home to find her.
Soon after her return, they start to discover a sinister presence haunting the house and taking control of Edna.
The film has already received rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival and is directed by Japanese-Australian Natalie Erika James.
Relic serves as a deeply haunting metaphor for the ravages of Alzheimer’s disease and is produced by Jake Gyllenhaal (Spiderman: Far From Home) and executive produced by the Russo Brothers (Avengers: Endgame).
P-Valley, July 12
This southern-fried drama tells the kaleidoscopic story of a little-strip-club-that-could and the big characters who come through its doors — the hopeful, the lost, the broken, the ballers, the beautiful, and the damned.
Trap music meets film noir in this lyrical and atmospheric series that dares to ask what happens when small-town folk dream beyond the boundaries of the Piggly Wiggly and the pawnshop.
Based on her play Pussy Valley, creator Katori Hall’s glittering new series features an all-female director lineup and stars Brandee Evans (The Bobby Brown Story), Nicco Annan (This is Us), Shannon Thornton (Power), Elarica Johnson (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince), Skyler Joy (Ma), J. Alphonse Nicholson (Chicago P.D.), Parker Sawyers (Southside With You), Harriet D. Foy (Elementary), Tyler Lepley (The Haves and the Have Nots), and Dan J. Johnson (Underemployed).
Outcry, July 5
Outcry is a five-part documentary series examining the gripping story of high school football star Greg Kelley and a quest for truth and justice. Few people experience the momentum that Kelley had going into his senior year in Leander, Texas. That all changed when he was convicted of sexual assault of a four-year-old boy, and sentenced to 25 years in prison with no possibility for parole.
But a groundswell of support emerged for Kelley, calling into question the investigation, the prosecution’s tactics and ultimately, the validity of the conviction.
Valley Girl, July 17
Set to a rock ’n roll ‘80s soundtrack, Valley Girl is a musical adaptation of the classic 1983 hit film that changed American teenage life forever.
Julie (Jessica Rothe, La La Land) is the ultimate ‘80s Valley Girl. That is until she falls hard for Randy (Josh Whitehouse, Poldark), a Sunset Strip punk rocker, who challenges everything Julie stands for.
Despite push-back from friends and family, Julie must break out of the safety of her world to follow her heart and discover what it really means to be a Valley Girl.
Valley Girl also stars Chloe Bennet (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Mae Whitman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), Ashleigh Murray (Riverdale), Jessie Ennis (Better Call Saul), Rob Huebel (The Goldbergs), Judy Greer (Kidding), Alicia Silverstone (American Woman), Camila Morrone (Never Goin’ Back) and Logan Paul (The Space Between Us).
