Everything You Need to Pack for the Ultimate Summer Road Trip

The countdown to warmer weather is on, and that means we’re already planning our summer road trips, and we’re not the only ones! Sportsgirl’s new collection features everything you’ll need to make your road trip as stylish and memorable as possible, with fun and flirty sun dresses, easy separates and fun accessories like beach bats and inflatable swim rings.

While winter driving getaways in Australia are all about bundling up for cosy nights and breathing in crisp morning air, summer trips see us cruising along coastlines, stopping along for picnics, swims or surfs, and generally appreciating and exploring more of our country’s beautiful backyard.

So, what do you need to pack for a summer road trip to make sure you have the ultimate trip? From a duffle bag big enough to pack all your weekend essentials, but small enough to fit in the car boot or at your feet, to a bucket hat that’ll protect your skin and complement any outfit, ahead we’re sharing an exact packing list for the ultimate summer road trip.

Bronzing Lotion

If you’re not keen on too much actual time in the sun on your trip, fake it before you head off by adding some colour and glow with a wash-off bronzer. Try Body Glow – Instant Bronzing Lotion ($14.95) for streak-free, flawless skin.

Bucket Hat

While a hat should never be a replacement for sunscreen, it can work to keep your face (and shoulders, if the brim is wide enough!) shielded from harmful UV rays. Plus, a hat is the perfect accessory to complement any summer outfit, helping pull your look together. This Tie-Dye Rewind Bucket Hat ($19.95) will bring all your ‘90s or early 00’s vibes to life.

Underwater Camera

Film cameras are always fun to use because you never know how your photos will turn out. But an underwater film camera is even better because you can bring it with you everywhere. This Paradise Bound – Splash Snaps Underwater Camera ($34.95) works to a depth of four metres.

Waterproof Phone Sleeve

If you’re not getting an underwater film camera, it’s worth at least investing in a waterproof phone sleeve, which you’ll no doubt have for years to come and can take on any future holidays or water-based day adventures. This Paradise Bound – Splash Proof Phone Sleeve ($12.95) will fit any mobile and make it completely waterproof.

Picnic Blanket

Even if you’re not planning on setting up a full picnic, a picnic blanket is always handy to have on a road trip because you never know when you’ll drive past a dreamy setting you want to kick back and relax in. This Paradise Bound – Picnic Blanket ($49.95) has a colourful wave pattern that’ll make it stand out in any Insta snaps.

Sun Dress

One item you’ll wear again and again over summer, not just on a road trip, is a sun dress. It’s easy to throw on, will keep you cool and can add some colour to your day. This Layla Printed Tea Mini Dress ($69.95) is made with a lightweight fabric and has a feminine V-neckline.

Linen Top

Linen is a staple on Aussie summer road trips, and it makes sense given the fabric is comfortable to wear in the heat and always looks chic. This European Linen Top ($39.95) can be dressed up or down, and paired with matching shorts.

Linen Shorts

Finally, no summer trip is complete without a pair of linen shorts. You’ll be able to dress them up, dress them down, and feel comfortable for long car rides when you’re stuck in public holiday traffic. Made from a linen blend, these Mae Linen Pull On Shorts ($39.95) are high-waisted and have an elastic shirred waist.
