The nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards are in with Succession continuing to be celebrated, following its success at the untelevised Golden Globes.
The HBO drama is up for five noms at the 2022 SAG Awards, including for Best Ensemble in a Drama Series and nominations for Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series.
House of Gucci and Power of the Dog led the film categories with three nominations apiece, with Belfast, CODA, Don’t Look Up and King Richard also being recognised.
Heartwarming Apple TV+ comedy series Ted Lasso scored even with Succession, also earning five nods, while Mare of Easttown, The Morning Show and Squid Game each landed four nominations apiece.
When it comes to the acting categories, Will Smith (King Richard), Lady Gaga (House of Gucci), Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter), Jeremy Strong (Succession) and Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show) are all in with chances to win, but many were surprised to learn that Kristen Stewart had been snubbed for her performance as Princess Diana in Spencer. The actor had been considered a front runner for her portrayal of Prince Charles’ late ex-wife.
Also surprising (and a bit upsetting) were the snubs of Issa Rae for her work in the acclaimed final season of Insecure, and Selena Gomez for Only Murders in the Building — especially as her co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short were both recognised for their roles in the popular series.
It was previously announced that Helen Mirren would receive the Life Achievement Award at the 28th annual ceremony.
