Rebel Wilson is known for her impeccable comedy chops and infectious personality, but apparently she should also get some credit for her ability to remain calm in a crisis.
The actress and comedian has revealed that she was once kidnapped at gunpoint by a group of men while visiting Africa, telling SAS Australia’s Ant Middleton about the ordeal.
The pair have teamed up for a UK TV special called Ant Middleton & Rebel Wilson: Straight Talking, which sees them backpacking around Mexico together.

When asked by Middleton to describe a moment in which she feared for her life, Wilson opened up about her terrifying experience explaining that she had been travelling with a group of women in Mozambique when they were ambushed by armed men.
“We were on this cattle truck and these men came on another truck with a lot of guns. (They pulled up beside us) with the big guns and they were like, ‘Yeah, you’ve got to get off your truck.’” she said.
According to the actress, she was taken to a house with the group and detained there overnight.
“I felt like I was very good in the crisis. I was like a team leader,” she said. “They sat us down, and I said, ‘Everybody link arms,’ because I was petrified in the night that they might want to take one of the girls or something.”
The group of women were unharmed and were freed the following day but were never sure of why the incident had occurred in the first place.
“I think maybe those guys, maybe, used us to smuggle illegal things in the bottom of the truck,” Wilson said.
The Pitch Perfect star will take on her first non-comedy role in 2021 when she stars in a feature adaptation of Kaite O’Reilly’s play The Almond And The Sea Horse. The film explores the story of two couples where one partner has survived a traumatic brain injury and how it impacts their lives together.
Shooting is scheduled to commence in March in Liverpool and North Wales.
