The Queensland Government’s New Travel Vouchers Will Make Your Whitsundays Dreams Come True

The Queensland Government has announced another round of travel vouchers to encourage domestic travel within the Sunshine State. Following a successful first round of Queensland Travel Vouchers to the Great Barrier Reef region, a further 36,000 vouchers ranging from $100 to $200 has been announced.

This time, the vouchers apply for tourism experiences and accommodation throughout Greater Brisbane and the Whitsundays region, meaning your trip to Hamilton Island or Hayman Island is now a little closer to reality.

Worth around $4 million in total, the vouchers are split into two groups. There will be 30,000 vouchers available worth $100, to be used to give travellers 50% off tourism experiences and accommodation in Brisbane, the Scenic Rim, and Moreton Bay regions.

Those in Brisbane will be able to enter an online draw that will be open for 72 hours from April 27. Winners will be drawn at random and will receive a voucher on May 6. Travel will be valid between June 4 and August 15.

On May 4, a second draw will be open for 6,000 $200 vouchers for the Whitsundays region for tours and attractions. The only catch for this being that entrants must already have travel booked to the Whitsundays region through local hotels or visitor information centres.

These vouchers will be available to visitors (and locals) who are in the region from May 4 to June 30.

Queensland’s tourism industry has taken a huge hit in the last year. The Great Barrier Reef is typically one of the top five places to visit in Australia, but with no international tourists, the region’s operators are suffering. In 2020, North Queensland tourism operators estimated that the industry would face a massive $2.2 million loss.

These vouchers are part of the road to recovery, and you can find out more about them and apply here.
