Must Watch: This Aussie Netflix Original Documentary Narrated By Rose Byrne

Puff Wonders of the Coral Reef

In the first Australian Netflix Original documentary, Puff: Wonders of the Reef, viewers will follow a baby pufferfish through a vibrant coral reef as he learns to survive and thrive through his first year of life. It’s kind of like Finding Nemo, but without the tragic murder of his mother at the beginning.

Narrated by Rose Byrne, this visually stunning and totally heartwarming film takes us on an incredible journey for a little fish that starts out smaller than a human fingernail. For the first time, scientists, cinematographers and documentary filmmakers have combined their skills to transport us into Puff’s tiny world — a world where the drama unfolds on scales too fast, too slow, or too small for the human eye to perceive.

“Everywhere you look, tiny stories are unfolding,” Byrne narrates.

“But the grim fact is, most things that eat can also be eaten,” she concludes, driving terror into our hearts as we are thoroughly invested in this minuscule protagonist’s story just 30 seconds into the trailer.

Directed by Nick Robinson, this is the story of the tiny, often overlooked creatures that live in one of Earth’s most diverse ecosystems and the interconnectedness of life that links our world to theirs.

The project was filmed in Australia on The Great Barrier Reef using sophisticated super macro techniques specifically developed for the film, that promise to immerse viewers in the exquisite world of the reef’s tiny, weird and wonderful inhabitants.

Byrne has previously lent her voice acting talents to feature films such as the Peter Rabbit films, in which she voiced Jemima Puddle-Duck, as well as playing a live-action role. She has also done voice work in films such as Martha the Monster and I am Mother in which she voiced a virtual assistant.

Puff: Wonders of the Reef will premiere on Netflix on December 16, 2021. Check out the trailer below.
