The 2022 Academy Awards Winners List Including Will Smith, ‘CODA’ and Jessica Chastain

oscars winners 2022

The Oscars are back in all of their spectacular glory at LA’s Dolby Theatre, after last year’s pared-back version at Union Station, thanks to the pandemic.

Considered the most prestigious night of the film industry, the Academy Awards are now in their 94th year and this year featured a host for the first time since 2018.

Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes will take on emceeing duties for the night, while presenters included Lady Gaga, Rami Malek, Lily James, Simu Liu and Anthony Hopkins.

Hopkins was the 2021 recipient of the Best Actor nod, for his work in The Father, upsetting many who expected the late Chadwick Boseman to be honoured for his final role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

In fact, the Academy was so confident of his win that they rearranged the show in order to have the Best Actor category go last — after Best Picture was announced — so they could offer the late actor a proper tribute to close the show. However, the award went to Hopkins who wasn’t even in attendance at the event.

This year, the hopefuls up for the coveted award are Javier Bardem (Being the Ricardos)
Benedict Cumberbatch (The Power of the Dog), Andrew Garfield (Tick, Tick … Boom!)
Will Smith (King Richard) and Denzel Washington (The Tragedy of Macbeth).

In the Best Picture category, Belfast, CODA, Don’t Look Up, Drive My Car, Dune
King Richard, Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog and West Side Story are all nominated.

We’ll be updating this post as the ceremony happens so read on to find out every person and film who took home a statuette at the 2022 Academy Awards, as decided by the Academy of Motion Picture, Arts and Sciences.
