Oscars 2020: The Nominee Gift Bags Are Valued at Six Figures Each

Oscars

The 92nd Academy Awards counts itself as one of the biggest nights in Hollywood and attracts arguably the biggest stars in the world.

For those who are in the running to win a coveted golden statuette, it’s not just the top honour of scoring a nomination (or a golden statue) that they get to take home.

There’s also the small matter of the “unofficial official goodie bag” and each year it’s bigger and better than the last.

So, what do you give the nominees of the most famous awards in the world and who seemingly have it all? Some ridiculously expensive gifts, of course.

Niche marketing company, Distinctive Assets, has once again put together the “unofficial” Oscar goodie bags for all nominees in the Best Actor/Actress, Supporting Actor/Actress, and Director categories.

Each gift bags is a collection of everything from skincare products to vacations and spa services.

The swag in each bag is worth an eye-watering $220,000 (US $148,000) and according to Distinctive Assets Founder, Lash Fary, “the gifts hardly fit in a single gift bag and are instead delivered to nominees in a number of suitcases over the course of a few weeks preceding award night.”

In an interview with Forbes, Fary said that each “bag” included a 12-day yacht vacation valued at about US $80,000, a bottle of hand-crafted white absinthe, CBD Simple Syrup, hydrogen-infused water, and an assortment of French macarons.

There is also “a bath bomb with 24 karat gold and hyaluronic acid, an amethyst crystal, a stay at the Faro Cumplida lighthouse in Spain’s Canary Islands, and an at-home cannabis-infused chocolate tasting for eight adults.

And that’s not even all of it.

So, why give these amazing gifts to some of the wealthiest people in the world. Marketing, of course.

For those who put their swag in the bag, it’s an opportunity for some huge exposure. According to Entrepreneur, in 2013, it cost between $5,000 and $20,000 to put your product in there — so we’re going to make an educated guess that this price tag has risen.

In 2001, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences gave out goodie bags to Oscar performers and presenters, however, in 2006, decided to stop handing out gift bags due to tax purposes.

Lucky, the Oscar nominees have Distinctive Assets to look after them — who are in no way affiliated with the Academy.

So, is it too late to get an Oscar nom?
