Plans for Melbourne’s iconic Jam Factory have been unveiled; and they’re pretty epic.
With Newmark Capital, GURNER™ and Qualitas dropping the $1.5bn plans today, we can now see that the Jam Factory’s facelift includes refreshed retail and entertainment, office and residential towers, an ultra-luxury hotel and a new public realm… all in the one luxury hub.
Set over 18,000sqm of site area and designed by globally renowned architects Bates Smart, the new proposed scheme aims to unlock the full potential of the landmark site, creating a vibrant new heart for Chapel Street while revitalising and restoring the Nineteenth Century heritage facades along Chapel and Garden Streets.
Bringing life back to the south side streets is exactly what we need post-pandemic, and these plans have been in the works for a while, so it’s amazing to see them come to life.
The proposed revised scheme, which is expected to be submitted to the council this week, includes:
- A new public civic space in the form of a 1,700sqm, two-level plaza and amphitheatre
- Four luxury residential towers totalling over 400 ultra-luxury residences
- A 5-star hotel
- Three levels of experiential retail and entertainment
- A series of integrated laneways, based on the area’s original 1864 master plans
Think of a 24/7 shopping, food, dining and entertainment destination. Whether it’s daytime cocktails, a shopping spree, a quick coffee stop or perhaps all three on a good day, the refreshed Jam Factory will be able to provide this and more in its new glory.
“Imagine having access to Melbourne’s best restaurants, shops and bars, alongside luxury designer brands, a cinema, restored heritage laneways and public space, all just a lift-ride away from your penthouse home,” Tim Gurner, one of the luxury entrepreneurs behind the new plans, said.
I mean, having a penthouse home is still very much a dream and not a reality, but I get his point. This precinct is set to be the most boujee and beautiful hub for the glamorous high-end shoppers of the south side and it sounds pretty dreamy TBH.
There’s not another precinct in Australia that can offer this to the extent that we have envisioned,” he stated.
Stay tuned for more info on restaurants, chefs and designers that you can expect pop-up in this new 5 star south side destination.
