A 60-Year-Old Whisky Valued at $39k Is Coming to Dan Murphy’s, If You Have Some Extra Cash

Whiskys are known for their expensive price tags, but the Dennis Malcolm 60th Anniversary Edition really takes the cake. Available in Australia from October 31, the limited edition offering by The Glen Grant Distillery, one of Scotland’s longest-serving distillers, is priced at a whopping $38,950.

Bottled from a single ex-Oloroso sherry oak cask filled on October 24, 1960 — to date, the oldest bottling by The Glen Grant – the liquid has a deep chestnut colour, and vibrant Seville orange notes that give way to an unravelling of apricot, peaches, raisins, pecan nuts and a hint of cigar smoke. Expect tastes of dark chocolate layered with treacle coffee, as well as figs, dates and liquorice flavours.

The whisky is 52.8% ABV, non-chill filtered to retain optimal flavour and aroma, and comes in a decanter made from hand-blown crystal glass, designed by world-renowned Glencairn Crystal Studio, and a walnut case that requires over 15 hours of expert craftsmanship.

“The launch of Dennis Malcolm 60th Anniversary Edition is an exciting time for The Glen Grant, as we celebrate and pay tribute to the career of a globally recognised Scotch Whisky craftsman and a true Scottish gentleman,” said Paolo Marinoni, Marketing Director at Campari Australia & New Zealand.

“[Master Distiller] Dennis Malcolm has not only created some of the most-awarded single malts in the world, but also serves as a champion and legend for the industry. This refined, remarkable liquid is a luxurious homage to a life spent doing what he loves most.”

Malcolm’s careful craftsmanship and attention to detail in crafting The Glen Grant’s single malt scotch whiskies has received worldwide acclaim, including recognition for his service by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2016, when he was named as an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

“It’s never been a job to me, it’s been a way of life. I don’t like my actual birthday — that makes me a year older. But I like my milestones with The Glen Grant because it’s a year longer that I’m here. I can keep doing what I was destined to do.”

If you’re keen to get your hands on the Glen Grant Dennis Malcolm 60th Anniversary Edition bottle, mark your calendar for October 31, 2021. Just four bottles of it will be available at Dan Murphy’s stores in Mermaid Waters, QLD, Double Bay, NSW and Prahan Cellar, VIC.
