The Tom Cruise-aissaince is upon us.

After several COVID-induced production delays, the Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning — Part One trailer is here, with the film set for release mid-2023.

The news comes just one week after Cruise’s latest film, Top Gun: Maverick, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where it received a five-minute standing ovation.

Mission: Impossible 7 was postponed in January 2022, after both Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie, the film’s writer/director, contracted the virus while shooting in Italy. The delay in production pushed the film’s release date from September 30th 2022 to July 2023.

As Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning is a two-part film that was being shot back-to-back with its sequel Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning — Part Two, the eighth instalment in the blockbuster franchise has also been pushed back. Originally slated for release in July 2023, Mission: Impossible 8 began filming in late April 2022, and is now scheduled for release in June 2024.

Here’s everything we know so far about Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning — Part One.

Meanwhile, joining the franchise for the first time are Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, and Cary Elwes. As for the Dead Reckoning bad guy, Esai Morales will also appear as the film’s primary antagonist.

This isn’t the first time McQuarrie and Cruise have collaborated on a project. In fact, McQuarrie also wrote the screenplay for Cruise’s latest film, Top Gun; Maverick.

McQuarrie is also the writer/director behind most of the films Cruise has starred in over the last decade, including Jack Reacher, Edge of Tomorrow, Mission: Impossible — Rogue NationMission: Impossible — Fallout, 2017’s The Mummy, and more.

What is Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning — Part One About?

While specific plot details about Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning — Part One are pretty scant at the moment, the first teaser trailer gives us an idea of what to expect.

“Your days of fighting for the so-called greater good are over,” says Henry Czerny as Eugene Kittridge. “This is our chance to control the truth, the concepts of right and wrong for everyone for centuries to come. You’re fighting to save an ideal that doesn’t exist. It never did. You need to pick a side.”

Think big fight scenes, high speed car chases, sexy parties, running on top of moving trains, trains falling off of bridges, you know, high stakes action, action and more action, basically! We love it.
