Attention, theatre-goers! There’s a live production of Mary Poppins coming to Sydney and, if you play your cards right, you could snag cheap tickets.
Cameron Mackintosh, Disney Theatrical Productions, and Michael Cassel have announced that there will be a digital lottery for Mary Poppins tickets, which will open at the Sydney Lyric Theatre on May 15.
The lottery will take place on the TodayTix app and, if you’re the lucky winner, you’ll be able to get great seats for just $45 a pop.
The lottery opened on Friday, May 6, and will close at 1:00pm AEST on Thursday, May 12, for performances between May 15 and May 22. From there, there will be a new digital lottery each week for the following week’s performances, which will open each Friday.
“I often hear stories from people who fell in love with theatre by watching the original Australian production of Mary Poppins over a decade ago, so it’s fantastic that we can introduce a whole new generation to Mary’s magic,” said Mary Poppins producer Michael Cassel. “The lottery is one of a number of initiatives we have to allow as many people as possible to experience this incredible show for themselves.”
NSW Minister for Tourism Stuart Ayres said that it was “fantastic to see so much excitement for what promises to be a spectacular production”, and said that the digital ticket lottery would “mean even more people have an opportunity to experience this timeless classic”.
“The NSW Government is proud to support world-class productions like Mary Poppins, which position Sydney as a global arts and cultural destination,” Ayres added.
To enter, you’ll need to download the TodayTix app, which is available in the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
The lotteries for each week’s shows will open at 12:01am each Friday, and close the following Thursday at 1pm.
Once the lottery is open, you select which performance you’re interested in attending. If you share about the show on your Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, you’ll get one additional entry per platform. If you win, you’ll have the chance to purchase up to two tickets for the show.
Winners (and non-winners) will be notified between 1pm and 5pm each Thursday. If you win, you have just one hour to claim and pay for your tickets, so it’s best to keep those push notifications turned ON.
