Treating male pattern baldness can be tricky and expensive. If your hair loss is genetic — which is the most common cause — it can be treated through a method like a hair transplant. While this method is effective, for many people it might not be a financially viable option.
There really isn’t much else in the way of topical solutions to hair loss — not yet, that is. Electronics company LG has created a treatment for male pattern baldness that just requires you to pop on a helmet.
This new piece of technology out of South Korea could prove to be game-changing for male pattern baldness. According to Boss Hunting, the LG Pra.L MediHair is a hair growth (or regrowth) helmet that has been approved by South Korea’s drug safety ministry.
This device is a sleek looking helmet that uses Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT), which is an approved treatment for androgenetic alopecia — also known as male pattern baldness. The LG helmet includes 146 lasers and 104 LED lights to stimulate hair follicles in the “bulge region” in order to support and encourage hair growth.
The device is still in the testing phase but preliminary results look promising so far. A recent clinical study undertaken by researchers at the Seoul National University Bundang Hospital asked participants to use the helmet three times per week for a period of 16 weeks.
At the end of this trial, participants reportedly “saw improvement in hair density and hair thickness.” Great news!
There’s currently no word on when the LG Pra.L MediHair helmet will be launched in South Korea or internationally (or how much it might retail for) so watch this space.
