Shoppers in Facebook groups Kmart Mums Australia and Kmart Home Décor & Hacks Australia have been raving about the new product, sharing before and after photos of them used in laundry rooms, stairwells and bathrooms.
According to Kmart’s site, the DIY tiles can also be used for kitchen backsplashes, tabletops and any other flat surfaces. They don’t require grouting or cementing, are resistant to water, mildew and high temperatures, and are easy to clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent.
The tiles come in a range of patterns and colours, including Grey Marble, Pink Marble, Herringbone, Blue Scales and Mosaic. Those who shopped the Mosaic tiles were thrilled about the results they wee able to achieve, writing on Kmart’s site: “Very impressive. Stick really well. Would buy again” and “A cheap way to brighten a room.”
One buyer wrote that they had used the tiles around the sink area in their campervan. “They were easy to cut and manipulate, they look great and they repel water,” they wrote. “They feel a little sticky, but that hasn’t affected use. We are really pleased with this product.”
Facebook user Belinda McDonald used the Hexagon tiles in her laundry room, sharing before and after photos. “My little makeover for my laundry,” she wrote. “It’s not perfect, but it beats looking at the cracked tiles.”
The post racked up over 400 likes and nearly 50 comments, with users writing, “Well done! Our splashback in the kitchen is finally covered, thanks to the new Kmart fashion! I have waited 17 years to get around to it!” and “They look lovely and fresh! I think they’re pretty damn perfect to look at.”
Brick walls, stone walls, stucco walls, showers and unpainted plywood aren’t recommended as surfaces to use the tiles on, the site notes. Ideal surfaces include smooth ceramic tiles backsplash, smooth glass tiles backsplash, wall panel, mirrors, stainless metal and laminate.
