John Krasinski’s Friendly Rivalry With Chris Evans Over Captain America

John Krasinski

If you’ve seen any Marvel film starring Captain America, then you would know that Chris Evans is the perfect Steve Rogers.

But, what you may not have known is that Jack Ryan star, John Krasinski, was once up for the role as well — only to lose out to Evans.

While it could have made for a very different Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) casting choice, Kransinky doesn’t hold it against his friend, who he has known for a long time.

“People have a sense that some of us are insanely competitive,” Krasinski told Esquire.”I’ve known Chris forever. So as soon as they said Chris Evans got the part, I was like, yeah, look at that guy. Are you kidding me? He is Captain America. And I just saw Chris a couple of weeks ago and we were still laughing about it. I said, ‘I love that you retired in my role.’”

Earlier this month, Krasinksi appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, telling the host that when he auditioned, Evans still was yet to get the role and wanted to see “who else was out there” before offering him the role.

But it was another Chris during the audition, that made him second-guess himself.

When putting on the famed red, white and blue costume, Chris Hemsworth walked passed The Quiet Place director, who “was halfway up not wearing any other clothes”.

“You look good, mate!” Hemsworth had said to him. “You’re going to look great in that suit.”

According to Krasinski, the Thor star was so “jacked”, that he joked and said: “Nope, you know what, it’s fine, we don’t have to do this,” before telling the Australian actor to “not make fun” of him.

But don’t rule out Krasinski in the MCU just yet.

The actor has shown interest in playing Mister Fantastic in an upcoming Fantastic Four movie.

“I was just about to walk into the worst pun ever, but I was like, that’s a fantastic role. That would be awesome. Marvel wrote the playbook on secrecy and awesome sort of tantalising lay and wait until everything’s announced. I am not committed to the role or anything, but I don’t know when they’re doing it. But if and when they do it, I would love to talk to them about it.”

Fingers crossed for Krasinski, because he’s one of the nicest guys in Hollywood!
