For Sale: A Great Barrier Reef Private Island With 2 Free Boats

Everybody loves a ‘buy one, get one free’ moment, but the concept usually only exists with coffees, candles, and if you’re super lucky, clothing.

Never did we expect the purchase of a private island to come with two free boats, but apparently extravagant throw-ins like these aren’t entirely out-of-the-ordinary when it comes to high-ticket items like private islands, mansions and yachts.

Victor Island, a private island on the Great Barrier Reef, has been listed with Sotheby’s International Realty for $5.5 million.

The eight-acre island with panoramic views of the Coral Sea is described as “the ultimate in seclusion and a remote hideaway where your closest neighbours are sea turtles, schools of dolphin and tropical birds”.

While the island’s terrain is rugged with walking trails, white sand beaches, fishing spots and reef for snorkelling, the home built on the island is luxurious and modern.

With five bedrooms and three bathrooms, the home is ready for entertaining with outdoor areas and a separate caretakers cottage, should the new owner wish to turn the main home into a Bed and Breakfast. In addition, the dwellings on the island have been reconstructed with an emphasis on sustainability and run completely off-grid with solar energy, rainwater storage and a desalination plant.

Produce is easily sourced from the island too, with the listing reporting mango trees, a vegetable patch, fresh oysters and fish, and egg-laying hens.

Being that it’s an island only accessible by helicopter, seaplane or boat, the sellers have decided to throw in not one, but two boats to sweeten the sale and make it easier for the new buyers to access the island, according to 9 News.

While still more affordable than a home or even an apartment in Sydney or Melbourne’s more desirable suburbs, the notion of buying your own private island is unattainable or unfeasible for most.

Thankfully, though, the chance to at least holiday on a private island is far more achievable financially, and in fact, we’ve found a private island on the Great Barrier Reef that costs less than a stay in a three-star hotel.

Camp Island is located in the northern Whitsundays and positioned within the heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef marine park. Comprised of four deluxe villas, each with its own ensuite, the accommodations on the island sleep up to eight guests.

At $1,300 a night for a mid-week stay on the entire island and occupying the villas, you can easily divide that by eight for the number of guests allowed, to pay only $162.50 per person, per night. We can’t really think of a better way to spend your annual leave.
