Where You Can Watch ‘Home Alone’ This Holiday Season

Home Alone

“Keviiiiiiin!” There aren’t many kids who grew up in the ’80s and ’90s who don’t know who Kevin McCallister is.

The lead character in film Home Alone (1990) Kevin — who is arguably actor Macaulay Culkin’s most infamous role ever — is an eight-year-old boy who was left behind after his family (hello, Schitt’s Creek’s Catherine O’Hara) dash off on a Christmas trip, accidentally leaving him to fend off two burglars and defend his home until the family return. It was a cult sensation, leading to not one, but five sequels!

Now, in its 30th year, the original film is being enjoyed by its original fans, as well as their kids, and it is as popular as ever. But how can you watch it?

If you’re looking to keep the Christmas spirit of Home Alone alive for your family, look no further than Disney Plus. The streaming platform has not only got the original, but they’ve also released the second film, Home Alone: Lost In New York and Home Alone 3. The films were originally on Netflix, however, were picked up by the Mouse House for families to enjoy.

To celebrate the release, and three whole decades since the film gained popularity, Disney commissioned a spectacular gingerbread house which recreated the famous McCallister home from the films.

In a nod to one of the famous quotes of the film: “Guys, I’m eating junk and watching rubbish! You better come out and stop me!”, the completely edible home spans a whopping 1.79 metres.

No detail was left out including the Little Nero’s pizza delivery car, figurines of Kevin, Harry and Marv (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) and their notorious Oh-Kay Plumbing & Heating van. It’s a sight to be seen.

The film set was recreated by award-winning artist and cake designer Michelle Wibowo who took 300 hours to complete the project.

“I jumped at the chance because it is one of my favourite Christmas movies,” Wibowo told Reuters. “It doesn’t really feel like Christmas in our house until we have seen it at least twice! I had so much fun making it look festive, and I loved making those cheeky characters Kevin and burglars Harry and Marv.”

If this doesn’t scream nostalgia!

Watch Home Alone 1,2 and 3 on Disney+, streaming now.
