Here’s Where Australians Can Shop the Best One-Off Interiors On Instagram

furniture

Furniture shopping is undoubtedly one of the more enjoyable aspects of moving house or building your home. And while it’s tempting to shop the fleeting interior trends of department stores and supermarket giants, it’s a tried and tested tale that “fast furniture”, while cheap, simply does not last.

Sadly, this means that bargain furniture, more often than not, can end up in landfill after only a matter of months. This has a detrimental effect on the environment, not to mention the resources used to make the equally cheap and equally nasty replacements that are likely destined for the same fate.

It’s a vicious cycle but here at The Latch we’re nothing if not solution-driven, and so you bet we have a wonderful way to salvage the situation.

When shopping for furniture, we always turn to beautifully-crafted vintage pieces first. Not only is it a sustainable and ethical way to shop, but vintage furniture carries a certain charm and history that new decor simply cannot bring to your home. Plus, it feels like it’s a one-off.

Here, we round up our favourite Instagram accounts dedicated to curating the best vintage decor out there for you to shop.

Very Nice

Melbourne-based VeryNiceHM brings beautiful one-off pieces to Instagram at an affordable price point. The Instagram store works similarly to others, in that the first shopper to comment ‘sold’ under the item gets the opportunity to take it home. Being that Very Nice is somewhat new to the game, your chances of scoring a truly special vintage piece are perhaps higher. That is, until the account blows up in popularity, which it surely will.

Illusory Interiors

A Sydney-based Instagram store run by two friends, Illusory Interiors is the new kid on the block with its first post dating back to May. Come for the interior inspiration, stay for the opportunity to nab the vintage decor and furniture that the team sources from around the city.

Just be the first to comment ‘sold’ under a listing and the team will reach out to arrange pick-up or delivery.

The Details Store

Founder and stylist Dee Jenner runs her online store out of the Sunshine Coast, though she ships her curated pieces all around Australia. The Details Store was born out of a love for one-of-a-kind vintage decor, and is driven by a desire to create a more sustainable means of decorating one’s home. Dee’s second-hand pieces are packaged carefully in recycled materials and sent to their new owners, ready to be loved and cherished for many years to come.

Curated Spaces

Pip Newell is the brains behind Curated Spaces — a second-hand marketplace for vintage designer furniture and home. She describes herself as a “treasure hunter”, and regularly posts big-ticket pieces reminiscent of the Mid-Century and Modernist eras at prices comparable to quality and desirability.

From modular sofas and designer dining chairs, to travertine sideboards and marble tables, there’s something for every interior obsessive here. Be quick, though, Curated Spaces followers are quick to reserve coveted items on the store’s website.

Piazza Piazza

The Piazza Piazza Instagram specialises in vintage furniture, homewares and lighting from the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, ’80s and ’90s. Though less than one year old, the account has already accrued a following of more than 3,000 dedicated interior lovers with a passion for all things travertine and cane. Spot something you like? Be the first to comment “SOLD” and arrange to have your piece delivered.

En Gold

For quality marble, stone and travertine pieces, look no further than En Gold. The Melbourne-based store drops a new collection of sustainably sourced furniture every Wednesday night, and if you’re fast, you can surely nab a one-of-a-kind item at a fantastic price. Each week surprise items make their way into the drops. We’re talking about modular sofas, rattan dining chairs and leather statement chairs.

CCSS

Melbourne duo Clare and Sonam founded their online site after discovering their combined talent for seeking out interior treasures during the hunt for vintage pieces to furnish their own home. They specialise in Mid-Century modern furnishings and accessories that include sculptures and lighting. Postage is available Australia wide.
