The Billboard Music Awards Are Just Days Away — Here’s How to Watch In Australia

billboard music awards 2021

Now that we’ve finished the 2021 award season for movies and television — it is over, right? — we’ve finally moved on to music award season. No offence to movies and TV, but we’re ready to see some musical talent on our screens.

First, it was the Grammys, which completely snubbed The Weeknd but did make Beyonce the most awarded woman in history. Then there was the BRITS, which saw Dua Lipa and Harry Styles look amazing — oh, and they also won some awards.

Now it’s time for the Billboard Music Awards. And thankfully, there’s an easy way to watch it here in Australia — through SBS On Demand. SBS On Demand will be streaming the Billboard Music Awards 2021 live and exclusively from Los Angeles next Monday, May 24, at 10am AEST.

If you miss that session, because of that pesky little thing called work, don’t worry, SBS On Demand has your back. After the broadcast, it’ll be made available on the platform for viewing (again, and again, and maybe a third time).

The awards are hosted by Nick Jonas (1/3 of the Jonas Brothers), and there will be performances from The Weeknd — who’s up for 16 awards this year! — as well as Duran Duran, and global boyband phenomenon BTS.

P!NK will receive the distinguished ICON award, and Drake is receiving the prestigious Artist of the Decade Award — he holds the record for the most BBMAs in history with 27, so it’s safe to say he deserves it.

DaBaby also boasts 11 nominations, and Gabby Barrett leads the female nominees with nine. Our fave Harry is up for some awards — only two though.

Interested in knowing exactly how the BBMAs calculate finalists and winners? It’s all down to us fans — Billboard looks at streaming numbers, album and song sales, social engagement, and radio airplay.

So get listening, and get Tweeting. Oh, and get watching, obviously.
