Australians Cate Blanchett, Nicole Kidman Lead the Nominations for the 2021 Golden Globes

Nicole Kidman

Australian actors Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman have both received nominations for best actress in a limited series or TV film category for the Golden Globes 2021.

Blanchett gained a nod for her portrayal as Phyllis Schlafly, a prominent conservative activist, lawyer and political lobbyist who founded the “STOP ERA” campaign (later the Eagle Forum) in Mrs America while Kidman received praise for her role as Grace Fraser, a New York City psychotherapist whose life unravels when her pediatric oncologist husband Jonathan (Hugh Grant) is accused of a gruesome murder in The Undoing.

Chadwick Boseman, who died from colon cancer at the age of 43 in August 2020, also gained a posthumous nomination — his first — for his turn as Levee, a talented and ambitious cornet player, in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Other notable mentions include The Crown, Mank and Sacha Baron Cohen scoring three nominations, tying with Jamie Foxx and Helen Mirren for the most nods by a performer in a single year.

The Golden Globes also made history with a record number of female directors recognised for their work in television and film.

The cast of Schitt’s Creek were celebrating once again (after their incredible Emmys sweep) scoring five nominations including best television series — musical or comedy and nods for Catherine O’Hara (Moira), Dan Levy (David), Annie Murphy (Alexis) and Eugene Levy (Johnny).
