The ‘Fear Street’ Trilogy Is Coming to Netflix With 3 Films Dropping Over 3 Weeks

Here’s something for the horror fans among you — come July, Netflix will be launching the Fear Street movie trilogy over the course of three weeks.

Based on R.L. Stine’s best-selling books of the same name, Fear Street takes place (in part) in 1994 when a group of teenagers discover that the terrifying events that have haunted their town for generations may all be connected — and that they may be the next targets.

The three film drop is a first for both Netflix and the horror genre, with the movies taking place first in 1994, then heading back in time to 1978 and 1666 respectively.

Leigh Janiak directed the franchise, which sees the interconnected films cover three different time periods across 300 years.

In a statement, Janiak said, “We filmed all three Fear Street movies over one crazy, bloody summer. It’s a dream that audiences now get to experience the story in the same way – back to back to back, with only a week of waiting in between. I can’t wait to welcome everyone into the world of Fear Street in 1994, 1978 and 1666!”

Some familiar faces will be appearing in the terrifying triptych, including two of the actresses from Stranger Things. Maya Hawke, who played Robin in the third season of the sci-fi horror series will play Heather in the 1994 chapter, while Sadie Sink, who has played Max since season two, will appear in 1978 as Christine “Ziggy” Berman and 1666 as a character named Constance.

Gillian Jacobs, who is best known for her roles on Community and Netflix’s Love, will also be featured in the 1978 and 1666 films.

“I can’t tell you how many R.L. Stine books I read growing up,” said Jacobs in an interview with Comicbook.com. “It was so much fun… The cast on that is so great. And it was really, really fun and I think that people are gonna love them. And, as a childhood R.L. Stine fan, I was so excited to be a part of them.”

And Stine himself promises that the three movies will not disappoint, saying in a statement, “Fear Street fans are in for a treat — and some major surprises.”

“Readers know that the book series is rated PG. But the movies are rated R. That means a lot more thrills — and a lot more terror! I have seen Leigh Janiak’s epic trilogy releasing on Netflix in July and I can tell you the scares and the screams are more than I ever expected. What fun to see the horrors of Shadyside come to life!”

The first instalment, Fear Street Part 1: 1994 is coming to Netflix on July 2, with Part 2: 1978 following on July 8 and Part 3: 1666 landing on July 16.
