Those in Sydney last year will remember that Father’s Day fell during lockdown (2.0). You could get your dad or partner a gift you ordered online, or make them a delicious meal you made with ingredients from your (rare) food shop, but you couldn’t celebrate out of the house.
Fortunately, things are different this year. Father’s Day 2022 — which falls on Sunday, September 4 — can see us actually making plans to take Dad out and treat him to something special.
Here, we’ve spotlighted some of our favourite Sydney venues for Father’s Day lunch. If none of these suit, you could check out a restaurant app like TheFork, which’ll show you other special set menus on the day at Sydney venues
Londres 126, CBD
In the mood for Mexican? Take the dad in your life to Quay Quarters venue Londres 126. Inspired by the legendary parties thrown by Mexican artist Friday Kahlo, the restaurant serves prettily-plated fare on a concise menu in a sophisticated, wood-panelled setting. Father’s Day here is a la carte.
Q Dining, Circular Quay
Tucked into Circular Quay hotel, Pullman Quay Grand, Q Dining is putting on a special Father’s Day Tasting Menu ($89pp), featuring three courses, including your choice of barbecue spatchcock with lemongrass soy glaze or slow-cooked Wagyu beef rump with oven-baked beetroot. Make a day of it by strolling over the Royal Botanic Gardens afterward.
Harvest Buffet at The Star, Pyrmont
For a real feast, book at The Star’s Harvest Buffet for lunch or dinner. For $130pp and $40 per child, you can tuck into fresh oysters, prawns, scallops and salmon, as well as barbecue meats, pizzas and pastas and curries. Whatever you’re in the mood for, chances are they’ve got it. The price includes a jug of beer for Dad to share, and unlimited soft drinks for everyone.
Woodcut at Crown Sydney, Barangaroo
This Father’s Day at Crown Sydney’s restaurant Woodcut, chef-owner Ross Lusted will be serving up a special menu of standout dishes, including Beef Short Rib with galette potato and whipped garlic, Rangers Valley X Wagyu Tomahawk and the rarest caviar of all with a gold shimmer, N25 Caviar Almas.
Forrester’s, Surry Hills
From 12pm, Surry Hills pub and restaurant Forrester’s will be cooking up its usual Big Yorkie, which Dad will love for Father’s Day lunch. Setting him (or you, if you’re shouting him) $32, it’s filled with the roast, crispy spuds, peas and carrots. If that doesn’t tickle his fancy, he can order a la carte, with a menu including sticky toffee pudding and vanilla ice cream as a finisher.
The Butler, Potts Point
Father’s Day at The Butler gives you the option to order a la carte or the $75pp Butler’s Banquet menu that features Head Chef’s Amber Doig’s favourite selection of dishes from the Ibero-American-influenced menu.
Luke’s Kitchen at Kimpton Margot Sydney, CBD
Father’s Day lunch at Luke’s Kitchen, located inside hotel Kimpton Margot, runs 12 – 2:30pm, with a degustation menu for $125pp and $45 per child, with options to upgrade to oysters, caviar and access to a cocktail trolley. Sip on a pre or post-lunch tipple at the hotel’s lounge bar The Wilmot Bar.
St Alma, Freshwater
Northern Beaches spot St Alma will be serving a four-course Mexican set menu for either lunch or dinner this Father’s Day. Included in the $95pp set menu is a cocktail on arrival and a degustation menu.
