The long-delayed 2023 Emmy Award winners have finally been announced. Today, television’s finest gathered at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles to recognise and celebrate the best moments from the 2022 – 2023 season in television, after the Hollywood strikes prompted the Television Academy to postpone the show from September 2023 to January 2024. With the Writers and SAG-AFTRA strikes now resolved, the show could finally go on, and what a show it was!
Perhaps unsurprisingly, this year’s Emmy Awards were a major HBO showdown — even more so than usual. Between the final season of Succession, newcomer The Last of Us, and The White Lotus: Sicily all competing, the prestige network had nominations galore.
If you’ve been tuned into award season thus far, though, you likely know how it played out — aside from Jennifer Coolidge snagging a second win for her work in The White Lotus, Succession walked away with awards in every other category it was nominated in.
Beyond the HBO showdown, The Bear and Beef swept the Comedy and Limited Series categories, just like they’ve done at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards this month. Notably though, the Emmys handed out to The Bear were for the show’s first season, which aired in 2022, rather than the second season, which aired in 2023. Of course, if the Globes and Critics Choice Awards are anything to go by, we can expect to see Season 2 of The Bear to sweep the 2024 Emmy Awards later this year.
The 2023 Emmys were hosted by comedian and actor Anthony Anderson. In Australia, the show aired live on BINGE. Without further ado, here are all the 2023 Emmy Award winners.
