‘Succession’ and ‘Ted Lasso’ Lead the 2022 Emmy Nominations

Buckle up, television lovers, because it’s Emmy season once again, and the nominations have been announced for the 2022 ceremony.

Every year, the best of the small screen go head-to-head, and with this being the golden age of TV, it’s safe to say that the competition has never been more intense.

Leading the nominations is HBO’s Succession, which managed to rack up 25 nods. Following succession, Apple TV’s beloved Ted Lasso and HBO’s The White Lotus followed, with 20 nominations each. HBO was the platform leading the charge, with a whopping 108 nominations across its shows, beating out Netflix’s 105 nods.

Also in the esteemed double-digit nods category are Hacks (17), Only Murders in the Building (17), Euphoria (16), Barry (14), Dopesick (14), Severance (14), Squid Game (14), Ozark (13), Stranger Things (13), The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (12) and Pam & Tommy (10).

Award shows are ever-evolving, and this year, one change is that showrunners were able to submit their series into either the drama or comedy categories, regardless of the show’s runtime. Previously, if a show had a 30-minute runtime, it was automatically submitted as a comedy, whereas episodes that ran longer would be submitted into the drama categories.

With the line between drama and comedy getting blurrier by the second, showrunners can now submit their series for consideration in whichever category they think fits best, whether their episodes are 22 minutes, or closer to two-and-a-half hours (cough cough, Stranger Things).

This year, the ceremony will return to its original form, held indoors and at full capacity. No host has been announced just yet, but there are some rumours that Chris Rock has been approached to host.

The winners of the 73rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced on 13 September 13, 2022. Read on for the full list of nominations.
