The Foolproof Off-Duty Outfit Guaranteed to Earn You Style Points in the Street

Why is it that the celebrity street style looks from our favourite fashions girls always appear so effortless? Well, after falling into a rabbit hole dissecting their outfits, we’ve discovered the secret to a foolproof off-duty look is less about specialised tailoring and designer labels, and a whole lot more about simplicity and a good fit.

While yes, fashion-forward celebrities are armed with personal stylists and racks upon racks of high-end apparel (which we’re certain gives them something of a leg-up), but more often than not, it’s the simpler, more effortless looks that catch our eye the most.

One in particular appears to crop up most regularly and would seemingly require only three key components, and the best news is? You likely already have everything you need in your closet to recreate it.

Blue jeans, a pair of court-style sneakers and some timeless jewellery. Historic evidence would show that’s all an it-girl needs to appear effortlessly stylish while running errands. And it’s all you need too.

Less is seriously more when it comes to this look. Starting from the bottom, an easy pair of white lace-up sneakers is all you need to put your foot forward… literally. By now, and if you haven’t already found your holy grail pair, we’d recommend something classic with an air of ’90s nostalgia, like Reebokā€™s iconic Club C 85 sneakers.

They’re comfortable, will go with everything, and can be easily wiped down between wears to remain white and fresh.

Bottoms-wise, it’s all about classic blue jeans in a fresh-to-death fit. We’re talking something relaxed that makes you feel comfortable and flattered, in a complementary shade of blue that does justice to the denim.

Australian online shopping portal Order of Style has a curated edit of jeans from labels like Paige, Mother Denim and Frame Denim, which is a celebrity-approved label in and of itself.

And hey, if you grab a new pair, or have an older pair that you’re not completely enamoured by fit-wise, do consider having your jeans tailored to fit your form better. It’s absolutely what the celebrities do, and if it means you’ll wear them more often and will love yourself in them, then it’s worth the extra money.

As for your top: That’s up to you! Whatever you feel comfortable wearing is the right answer. If it’s a cute-as fluffy cardigan, fabulous. A plain white t-shirt? Awesome. Your partner’s dad’s old suit jacket? Sounds great to us.

As we said, the formula to a flawless off-duty look is not so much about the garments and the statement they make, but the fit. So long as your TOC (that’s ‘Top of Choice’ ā€” an acronym we just made up for no reason) fits like a dream, then it will look great with your outfit so far.

What does matter for completing the look, however, is your accessories. Sunglasses, a belt, a vintage baseball hat ā€” they’ll all look great with the base look you’ve created, but the common thread in the celebrity outfits that make our jaws hit the floor is the jewellery they don to top it all off.

When seeking out your perfect jewellery, look to Australian jewellery labels creating sustainable and ethical pieces that care for the environment and its people in their production.

In their Sydney and Sunshine Coast studios, Holly Ryan jewellers hand-make timeless collections designed to be worn forever, using entirely recycled metals ethically sourced stones, either through Fairtrade in India or through local Australian suppliers.

Whether hoops, pearls, diamonds or signet rings, your look, topped off perfectly with a special piece that glimmers when it catches the sun, will now be complete.
