Dream Job Alert: Maldives Resort Is Looking for Someone to Curate Beach Reads

maldives-dream-job

Love reading? Love the beach? Love reading on the beach? You get it. But in all seriousness, if you can’t think of a better way to spend a warm summer’s day than setting up on the sand with a pile of page-turners, then we’ve got great news for you.

A luxurious Maldives resort is looking for a “barefoot bookseller” to run its on-site bookshop. Living at the five-star Soneva Fushi luxury resort, the six-month role requires you to manage the bookshop, host creative writing sessions for guests, and run the Barefoot Bookseller Instagram account — which has a 5k following.

Additional duties include writing monthly blog posts and creating newsletters, so it goes without saying the successful applicant will have great written and verbal skills, a love of reading both classical and modern literature, experience writing for blogs and social media, and a passion for travel since you’ll be spending half a year on the resort.

“The ideal candidate will be a team player with an evident passion for books and the ability to engage with guests of all ages, especially on Instagram. They will have excellent written and verbal English skills; a lively tone of voice to write entertaining blogs and newsletters that capture the exhilarating life of a desert island bookseller, and the skills to host workshops and events,” the job description reads.

While the successful Barefoot Bookseller will spend a good chunk of their time recommending beach reads to guests of the resort and hosting creative writing classes (hardly work, TBH), they will also be able to spend their days swimming, snorkelling, reading on the beach, and enjoying the resort’s wellness facilities.

Following six months on the island resort, the successful applicant will pass the torch onto someone else. Soneva Fushi has seen a number of Barefoot Booksellers since it launched the role in 2018.

Applications are open now, and you can apply easily via the form online. Should your application be successful, you will receive a months’ virtual training before flying over to the Maldives to commence the role in mid-October. Good luck!
