Dom and Adrian are two “hipsters totes loving life in Bondi Beach — shedding light on the enigmatic amazeballs Bondi tribe,” or so the pair calls themself on Instagram.
From the imagination of creators Nick Boshier and Christiaan Van Vuuren, the pair — who are the creators of the hit social media page Bondi Hipsters — have been given their own special Dom and Adrian: 2020.
Premiering on Sunday, December 13, the Stan original is a mockumentary special chronicling the duo’s journey through the garbage fire that is 2020.
The official synopsis is as crazy as you would expect and begins with Dom and Adrian’s USBJ’ing (DJing with pre-loaded USBs) career on the precipice of taking off after having been billed to play at a premier bush doof… when the bushfires hit.
They were next booked to play a bushfire fundraiser when the floods washed through. Then they were going to headline a flood-relief show when the hail storms came down. And now, the night before their biggest gig yet, raising money for the #PanelBeatBondiAiD movement, the whole country was thrown into lockdown because of one little global pandemic.
In spite of the initial personal turmoil, the two best friends quickly see all this as an opportunity to refocus, “pivot” and evolve creatively — but as time goes on, it’s not only their creativity and entrepreneurial-ship that’s tested but their friendship and sanity.
Dom and Adrian try desperately to remain positive, make rent and redefine their lives. And hey, there’s always regrowth after a fire — so by traversing madness, 5/6G conspiracy theories, philosophical clashes, and an invitation to join the Illuminati, Dom and Adrian are forced to rediscover why they’re best friends in the first place.
“I’m sure a lot of people think 2020 has been hard, but those people have no idea how hard it is to make a documentary,” Dom said in a statement before Adrian adds: “If you thought COVID and lockdown was tough for you — spare a thought for conspiracy theorists who have been saying this was going to happen for a decade. They’re spinning out the hardest”.
The Van Vuuren Bros, Bondi Hipsters and Soul Mates YouTube channels have a collective subscriber base of over 150,000 and boast over 25+ million views to date.
