Disney’s New Cruise Ship to Feature a Rapunzel-Inspired Spa and Adults-Only Bars

Disney Wish

As everyone in Australia no doubt knows, we’re still under an international travel ban. Still, though, we can’t help but scratch our wanderlust itch — not to mention, for those in lockdown, stave off boredom — by planning our next long-haul trip and checking out what’s new in overseas travel.

So, that said, here’s an unveiling to note: Disney has shared more info on its upcoming cruise ship, Disney Wish. The vessel is set to launch on August 9 in the US and will set sail from Port Canaveral in Florida.

The brand had previously shared that the 2,500-passenger ship would feature a Star Wars-themed lounge and fine dining experiences inspired by film classic Beauty and the Beast. Now, it’s given us more of a peek on-board, sharing that the ship will also include a spa, salon, barbershop and a collection of bars and lounges — all for adults-only.

“With the Disney Wish, we wanted to design an experience that allows our grown-up guests to relax, recharge and reconnect in unique ways that only Disney Cruise Line can create,” said Laura Cabo, portfolio creative executive of Walt Disney Imagineering.

“We added more variety and made them more accessible than ever before. This ship has truly been designed with adults’ vacation needs in mind, and I know our guests are going to return home feeling refreshed after their Disney Wish vacation.”

So, what else on-board can adults enjoy exclusively? For starters, there’s the Senses Spa, which will feature an outdoor relaxation space with a whirlpool and yoga sessions. There will also be an ice lounge where guests can combine thermal therapies. There are also heated ergonomic lounges, sensory spa showers as well as a sauna, and steam and dry chambers.

The spa will also house private treatment rooms and, for couples, spa villas. Massages, facials and acupuncture, as well as various other specialised and completely customisable treatments will be on offer. Adjacent to the spa, Senses Fitness will not only have exercise equipment, but also a cycle studio and an aerobics room.

Also for adults only, Disney Wish will premiere two salon experiences so you can treat yourself in peace. Inspired by Disney princess Rapunzel, Untangled Salon will be a high-end salon with a chandelier, pops of purple and gold and a menu of everything from haircuts and styling, to manicures and teeth whitening treatments.

For the fellows, Hook’s Barbery will be the ship’s take on traditional European barbers. Inspired by Captain Hook, the spa will include tokens from the film, including a map of Neverland and a hook, and will offer cuts, shaves, nail and skin care.

And when you’ve had enough relaxation and are keen to get your drink on, you won’t have any trouble for a spot on-board that caters to that, too — the ship will have several bars, each with its own unique theme.

The Keg & Compass will feel like you’ve landed in a late-1800s Norwegian sailor’s map room, while Nightingale’s piano bar will be setting foot into a scene from Cinderella. And finally, The Bayou will be The Princess and the Frog-inspired, complete with twinkling fireflies, creative cocktails and signature beignets.

Bookings for Disney Wish opened in May this year. And while it’s likely those of us here in Australia will have to wait quite a while to sail on it, we’ll have to settle with dreaming in the meantime.
