This year, Chinese New Year falls on Saturday, February. We’re entering into the year of the dragon, which represents good luck, health and strength.

According to Chinese astrology, people born in dragon years – 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012 and 2024. – usually display courage, tenacity and intelligence. They’re also said to have enthusiasm and confidence.

For those who celebrate Chinese New Year or even just Lunar New Year (because the two aren’t the same – as explained here), we’ve rounded up some of the best decorations to display around your home. These are of course in addition to blooming flowers, like plum blossoms, peonies and orchids, which symbolise the coming of spring, and are often found in homes ahead of and during Chinese New Year.

Most decorations for Chinese New Year involve the colour red, as well as images representing luck. And since 2024 is the year of the dragon, the animal will also heavily feature on décor.

From beautiful, yet affordable red lanterns, to sauce dishes and bowls you can keep using long after celebrations are over, this is our edit of the best décor to get for your home this upcoming Chinese New Year.
