When you think of cute dinnerware, you think of plates, cutlery, glasses, napkins and tablecloths. What you don’t think of is water filter jugs. But this just-launched, Australian-designed water filter jug will change your mind.

It’s a collab effort between Brita, a brand synonymous with water filter jugs, and In The Roundhouse, a brand known for its cute homewares. The Brita Glass Jug and Base ($119) comes with a water filter jug and a coaster-style base.

The jug is made with 60% recycled glass from production surplus, 100% bio-based plastic and 100% borosilicate glass that’s lightweight, robust and heat-resistant. The glass doesn’t absorb any odours and won’t make your water taste funny. Also handy is a smart light LED in the jug that turns on when the filter needs to be changed.

The jug’s coaster features blue and white artwork by Sydney-based artist Daimon Downey. It’s dishwasher-safe, made from bone china.

Alyce Tran, co-founder of In The Roundhouse, suggests you add lemons and fruits like strawberries, blueberries and mint into the water you’re serving in the jug. For her tablescapes, she loves incorporating colour.

“Sometimes I wish I was a bit more restrained with colour, which can be seen as quite chic, but you only live once,” she says. “As a result, I think about colour combinations that work well together — pink and green, yellow and blue, green and beige — and use that as a base, but then always layer more and more in.”

Tran also says a great tablescape plays around with different shapes and textures. An easy and cost-effective way to add that is with fruits, vegetables and flowers scattered around the table.

“I think if you are going down this route, it’s great to ensure it looks and feels intentional,” she says. “Not like you just emptied a bag of tomatoes onto your dining table. For example, I once made these little stacks of tomatoes with a skewer, which was a cute way to add a styling element to the table.”

The Brita Glass Jug and Base ($119) is available for a limited-time only.
