‘Bridgerton’ Has Been Renewed for Two More Seasons, So Plan Your Diary Accordingly

It looks like Lady Whistledown is in for a busy couple of years.

Netflix has announced that it has renewed runaway hit Regency-era drama Bridgerton for a third and fourth season, as production on the second season is due to get underway.

The announcement was shared by Lady Whistledown herself on the show’s Instagram account with a witty post that read, “Esteemed members of the Ton, It seems we have a rather special announcement. Bridgerton shall return for seasons three and four. This author shall have to purchase more ink…”

In a statement, showrunner Shonda Rhimes said: “This two-season pickup is a strong vote of confidence in our work and I feel incredibly grateful to have partners as collaborative and creative as Netflix. Betsy and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue bringing the world of Bridgerton to a worldwide audience.”

The news of the renewal makes perfect sense given the fact that in January 2021 Bridgerton became Netflix’s biggest series ever with 82 million streams worldwide.

The smash-hit — and very steamy — series is based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling novels with the first season starring Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor closely following the plot of the first book.

Fans were dismayed to learn that, while Dynevor would be returning for the second instalment, Page would no longer be part of the show as his character arc was only ever intended to last one season.

The second season will be based on Quinn’s book The Viscount Who Loved Me which revolves around eldest Bridgerton sibling Anthony’s quest for love.

Joining Dynevor for the sophomore season will be Jonathan Bailey, Simone Ashley, Charithra Chandran, Rupert Young,  Shelley Conn and Calam Lynch.

No details have yet been released as to when we might expect the third and fourth seasons or who might star in them, but it’s safe to say we’ll be watching no matter what.
