Dinner With a Side of Sustainability: Brisbane’s Best Green Restaurants

Our dining habits change, but one thing remains the same: dining out has a powerful impact on the environment. Enter the dining destinations embracing the green. Whether adopting seasonal menus or committing to ethical farming, some restaurants are stepping up their sustainable game.

In Brisbane alone, there’s a gathering of sustainable restaurants doing their bit for the environment, encouraging diners to be conscious about where their food comes from. Keep these green restaurants in mind the next time you’re craving a chef-cooked meal.

Three Blue Ducks

Brisbane, QLD

Diners will find this farm-to-table concept, inside the eccentric W Hotel, in the heart of the CBD. Overlooking the iconic river, Three Blue Ducks connects the dining room back to nature with a wood fire oven and rotisserie. Their focus is on serving real and honest food, underlined by their commitment to sourcing only ethically grown, seasonal, and local ingredients.

Grown Brisbane

Brisbane, QLD

One of the common practices for becoming more eco-friendly is reducing meat consumption. At Grown, the menu is entirely plant-based. If you’re wondering where the produce comes from, rest easy. Grown works with FoodConnect, Loop Growers and SunCoast Fresh— who source from sustainable farmers and, more importantly, fair food systems. Food is their common ground; you can dine with trust here.

Homage

Grandchester, QLD

There are very few hatted restaurants, let alone hatted restaurants committed to sustainability. Homage is one such restaurant serving up green dishes on a 12,000-acre working farm. Expect country service, surreal surroundings, and an award-winning menu. Their commitment to ethical farming extends beyond using local-grown vegetables. The menu is flushed with emu, native pepper, saltbush, and other native ingredients, often overlooked by mainstream restaurants. Dining at Homage is more than a meal — it’s an experience.

Grassfed

South Brisbane, QLD

Not all sustainable restaurants have to be fancy. Grassfed is a vegan burger joint in South Brisbane, simplifying an already simple thing. Using vegan beef (vEEF burger patties) and coco vegan soft serve ice cream, Grassfed reduces meat consumption and encourages others to try this vegan comfort food alternative, even meat eaters. Stop in, and try a burger. It’s only a small shop with five tables, and most of the time, there’s a long line of hungry patrons waiting to wrap their hands around the tasty, juicy burgers.
